Everybody at the shop I shoot at used America's Best and swears by them.

I'm a rebel and had Jamie of Twisted Archer make my wife's latest set. They came out real pretty!

Just had new strings made and put on my bow Schmidtys Specialty Strings the owner of an Archery shop in La Crosse makes them. Excellent string but 10 fps is a stretch I think. Anyways great looking strings and they seem to perform flawlessly so far made my Drenalin feel and shoot like she was new again. aschmidt@lacrossearchery.com is the guys email addy or you can go to ssstrings.com to check them out. the colors are so much better on the bow rather than the stock pictures they put on the web page though.

    I just got a set from jcmorgan31.

He has some of the best built string/cables around at a fair price and great customer service.

I have used Vapor Trail string/cables in the past and Mr. Morgans are better built for sure.

Don't believe the 10 fps speed increase. The speed difference will depend on a lot of things conspiring together. When I put Vapor Trails on my Ovation I did not gain any speed and I had to add twists to the cable to get the cam timing right. A lot of twists.... But I do have to say that I had no string creep or peep rotation problems after I got them shot in. Justin's strings are just built better by a lot, especially the care with the servings he does.

I would highly recommend jcmorgan31's work.

My question to anyone making a claim like that is "how is the extra speed achieved?".

The only way that I know of to do it with strings and cables alone is to reduce the number of strands and to use lighter or shorter servings. This is assuming that the strings are all 452X or equal.

Most stings are overbuilt so a strand or two usualy isn't much of a problem. I doubt that less serving or lighter serving is a problem either unless you need if for a reason beyond bow performance.

The question becomes how far do they go with strand and serving reduction. If you are shooting wth a short draw length and low draw weight, it would likely be safe to reduce the number of strands quite a bit.

You are correct Allen, that is the only way I know of to gain speed if materials are the same.

I wonder, is it friction due to servings over the cams that would make one string faster than another, or weight, or diameter? One of these is more important than the other, but I don't have a clue. If I had to guess serving size, friction properties of the serving, and fit in the cams would be most important. It seems to me that the string part, thats only resistance is air and it's own weight, would make little difference.

I am not an expert I just ask about such things because I spent 20 years designing electro/mechanical products. It taught me to never accept my ability to use logic, I trust tests.

Vapor Trails makes a good set of strings. I just ordered a set of America's Best, looking forward to trying these out.
