Default Archery in schools tommorrow for me

Im going to be spending the day showing middle schools girls all about tournament archery and hunting.

PE eacher has ask me to come demostrate archery. They are currently shooting archery in the PE class at the middle school.

Really looking forward to it. Went by the class today and took a video and some pictures to share. These girls are having a blast. Think Ill take some Ballons tommorrow for them to shoot.

These bows are used by are special ed classes most the year in my school district. Its amazing to watch those kids shoot the bows. They do well and it teachs them good hand and eye cordination.

Great to see kids learning archery.

We have over 20 teachers in my district certified to teach archery. State wide we have 19 schools who have archery. Grants are out there if the districts pursue them.

I teach archery through the NASP in my classes. Actually we will be shooting next week. Many kids really enjoy it. I'm forming a club for kids after school as well next year so we can take a group to the NASP state shoot.

What state are you in Muckdog? I attended a tournament in Kentucky one year. I could not believe how many kids shoot archery there. Amazing. My hats off to Mathews for supporting this program.

Yeah but I'm not sure what they are doing to actually promote it.
My neighbor is a school teacher for math and phys-ed and he had never heard of it before I mentioned it to him.

I need to spend more time trying to explain what it is. I generally know about it but I need to read more about it and try and understand what us general archers need to do to try and promote the idea.

I'm tired of clubs closing around here. We need to try and foster a larger base of shooters and that begins with kids getting involved. Kids love this sport, as evidenced by every single shoot I go to that have kids with their parents, but not enough even know about it.

That will be fun Dan! We do a annual event in Shawnee with the middle school kids, i say we.. but it is mainly the wildlife department, i just help them with the archery part of it. i'm the only female instructor. The last two years its been on of my girls that won.. Winner gets a new bow. Its a great time, and big effort by the community to put this on.
We'll be doing it on May 1st, in case you want to come over and help

    Great to hear DB!

The NASP is slow growing here in N. Illinois, but I was glad to hear that my brother-inlaw who teaches PE near Champaign, IL. became a certified instructor and hopes to start it in his classes beginning next fall.
Be good or be good at it.

One of my nieces, they lived in Florida up until November, had archery in her PE class. She loved it. My brother is supposed to be buying her a Genesis.

I'm in Wisconsin. We are a small northern rural high school of 200 kids. I went out and got funding via Wisconsin Bowhunters and through a grant and that money funded all of the equipment. We are in our 3rd year at my school. I teach archery 2 times a year in my PE classes once per semester.

This is an awsome program it looks like. I think I will bring it to a friend of mine who is a PE teacher at our local schools and see what we can do to bring it here to our schools.

It's pricey for a district to start.....I think the going rate is about $3000 for the total set up right now....includes net, 12 bows, 5 doz arrows, 5 targets, repair kit. There are many organizations that have been known to donate. Check out local archery clubs, state organizations, wild turkey federation chapters, whitetails unlimited chapters, QDMA chapters. Any money helps and they are very happy to donate a lot of the time.

I am from Henderson Co., KY and we are the reigning NATIONAL CHAMPIONS...2 years in a row(NASP). The program is unbelievable here. They have to turn away people wanting to help and teach. Just built a new indoor range here, a few months back. Most, if not all, was funded by the community. Not too bad for a city of 30,000 or so.

We have the equipment ordered to start up the program. I can not wait to get it started. The kids are just as excited as I am. I believe this is going to be a huge hit. We have some students with a pretty hard life and background and I think this will be very good for them.
