Default Texas ASA Qualifier at Clifton Archery Club March 14 & 15

The 2009 Texas ASA Federation Tournament Trail is rolling into Clifton, Texas this weekend. Clifton Archery Club is hosting the second of nine Texas State Qualifiers.

10:00 am shotgun start on both Saturday and Sunday, You may shoot either day, 30 McKenzie targets, 15 known distance targets and 15 unknown distance targets, $30.00 entry fee for all adult classes, $16.00 entry fee for young adult and youth classes, $5.00 entry fee for all eagle classes. Cash pay backs for all adult classes, non cash awards for young adult and youth classes. Awards will be presented at approximately 4:00 pm on Sunday. ASA and Texas ASA rules apply and will be enforced.

We have a new class for 2009. The Known 45 (K45) is an all known distance class. The contestants in the K45 will be peer grouped together and will be responsible for having range finders. No yardage sheets will be issued for the K45 class. You may shoot the K45 class on Saturday or Sunday.

The Shooter of The Year program will be based on your 5 best qualifier scores PLUS your state championship score. We will be awarding SOY buckles for all adult, young adult, and youth classes (not eagles) for 2009.

For a complete schedule, rules, club links and more go to the Texas ASA Federation website at:

    http://texasasafederation.com/

Clifton has a great range and they always set a challenging course. We had 200 shooters at Clifton last year. We are expecting another big crowd this weekend.

    And remember.....

We Are the Next Best Thing to a Pro/Am

    Thanks Jimmy,

It is great to just be out shooting again!
If you saw Bret's score you can see I got some serious work to do.
I hope to be able to hang with him by state.

So how is the finger shooting going?

    Marty

Jimmy, that is a very good score for so short a time with fingers... Congratulations on both the shooting and the work you've done...

    Thanks Mike!

I didn't see him around at the end.... but I'm sure he tore it up from the "Spot and Stalk" stakes.

    Or maybe he shot K45

If it is the same guy (weiner) that you are talking about I believe that he shot in the low 280's or high 270's....in senior pro

I started off horribly! Don't know what was up but when we finally shot through the chronograph....I was shooting 9 feet per second faster then I normally do. That explained a lot (the reason I was shooting 3 or more yards hot on each target). I was 20 down with 8 targets left....and it went something like this:

    14
    12
    14
    12
    12
    12
    12
10 (wanted this 12 so bad as it would have put me back to even)

Marty Serber shot great to take the semi-pro this weekend (i am just glad that he came the shoot so that I would have some competition (I was the only semi-pro at Brownwood)

Jimmy....heck of a round! You are shooting very well and look for more big things from you!

I used to kick myself for buying this money pit back in '96

But it came with a great neighbor.

First of all....there is a reason that no pictures exist....

Second of all....you shot pretty dang good on the last 13 targets when you finally relaxed and just started shooting instead of putting all that pressure on yourself.

Jimmy, I guess that rival pro just wanted a new color...it sure performed!

You may be right. I'd give it a new color every tournament, but, Gene told me if I change it at all, he'd beat me to death with it.

A big THANK YOU to everyone that came out and participated. The guys at Clifton did a great job in the rain last week setting up the course. Prayers go out to Dan Fowler whose daughter is fighting for her life in ICU right now. Dan worked all week on the range but had to rush to Tyler Saturday morning when his daughter fell ill.

Our GREAT Texas ASA Federation shooters set a new one day qualifier record will 166 shooters on Sunday. The total for the weekend was 196 shooters.

I want to thank my wife Tracy who registered all 196 shooters, assigned them targets, and kept everyone happy.

Once again. Great course, great shooters, great shoot.
