Default Why do I have to log on so frequently?

I visit this site several times a day. It used to be that once I signed on, the log on was good for 24 hrs. Now it's everytime I visit. What's going on? This is a PITA!

Nobody else has mentioned any problems lately. Try clearing all your cookies and see if that helps.

I went into Tools/ Internet Options/Settings and then deleted all of the files & cookies. This worked. I've been doing this daily, but how do I avoid having to do this each time I want to log on? Hate to show my computer ignorance, but I'd like to get this resolved. There has to be a better way.

As an aside, I recently upgraded my PC and it seems this may have started around that time, yet I do not recall changing anything having to do with cookies.

    Thanks for your help.

You should only have to do this once. If you do this daily, this is why you have to login each time you visit. The cookie is where your information is stored. Each time you delete it, the forum doesn't know who you are.

    I hope this helps

As I mentioned above, I've been using the Tools/Internet Option/Delete menu daily to clean out the crap that accumulates on my PC: temp files, etc. However, shortly after I upgraded my PC, I also upgraded my IE browser to version 8, and this new version is different than IE version 7. When using this new version for deleting "trail" info, the cookies box was checked to be deleted. Since I don't like having my PC monitored by "outsiders", I guess I'll have to decide whether or not to keep the cookies.

Do you know if there is there a way to allow only preferred sites to retain their cookies?

    Thanks for your help

Unless you're visiting questionable websites, deleting cookies daily should not be necessary.

There is probably software out there that will allow you to retain certain cookies and delete others. I'm not sure which ones though. I use Norton Internet Security 2009 on my systems.
