You can pick up a older Hoyt for 200 bucks. I have a 2005 Ultramag still, and even a Havoc. Damn good bows!

My last 10 bows have come from the classifieds. Now some have moved on, and some to friends, but there some great bows in the classifieds. The majority have been Mathews, but also a couple Hoyts and Martins. If your not sure on his DL, look for something that is adjustable. All of mine were bought for 250 or less.

It is pretty tough to beat a Hoyt ultra-tec or a Mathew's switchback for a great value. They are great hunting bows but will both do about anything in the target world too.

If he is going to get into target shooting (or has a long dl) a little I'd lean more toward the mathews conquests than the switchback. Conquest 2's and 3's in camo are pretty cheap and really hard to beat for all-around bows.

Right on! You don't have to worry about giving up the warranty buy buying a used Hoyt because you'll likely never need it, anyway.

LOL, I hate to admit it, but the Havoc still has the original string, The string isn't white and green anymore, more brown and black. Still shoots nice!
