Shot a nice doe this morning
I got to the stand a little late this morning. I was almost to the stand and heard a deer snort. It must have been right under my stand. So I get to the stand and get settled about 6:20am. At 7:06 I spot movement in the corn field, it's a deer headed my way.
It's a doe, not huge but not small either. Probably 130-140lbs. She gets to the edge of the woods about 65 yards from me and turns feeding away. For some reason she turns 180 degrees and starts walking my direction.
If she keeps coming, she'll pass by at 8 yards. Slowly she feeds my way. I wait patiently and come to draw just before she gets to the opening. Now I'm holding, waiting. She is taking her time. I put the pin on her and need one more step to clear the tree limb. I hold right at the heart line knowing it's going to hit a little high. Whack!
She turns and runs about 15 yards and stops. I thought she was going to fold up right there. She then trots off about 65 yards, I can still see her through the Binos. She beds down in the filter strip. I notice her head dropping lower and lower. I think she's done.
I decide it is best to wait about 45min and also to see if a buck walks by. No such luck. So I lower my bow and climb down. I untie my bow and start to nock the arrow. Crunch, crunch. I glance over and here is this spike buck. He walks right down the fence line. If I had leaned over, I could have touched him. I'm on one side of the tree, he is on the other. Good thing he wasn't bigger. I didn't move a muscle, except for the big grin under my face mask. He looked right at me and didn't see me LOL. I could have shot him easily.
Back to tracking, I find the arrow and it's covered in blood and broken. dang! It looks like the spitfire xp did it's job. So I follow the trail pretty easily right to the deer.
