Background: Glenn Ammons, a senior at Garden Spot who is an avid sportsmen was diagnosed with a form of testicular cancer in November of 2008. He was actually deer hunting with his family in W. Va. when he developed flu like symptoms and began to dehydrate. It was when he was taken to the hospital for the dehydration that his cancer was discovered. He has been fighting courageously ever since. Two of the highlights of the last year involved hunting. His blood counts were too low for him to be allowed to go hunting this past fall. His doctors told him his counts had to be at a certain level to able to hunt. In less than a week his levels went well beyond the necessary level. Call it willing himself to be able to hunt, or a miracle of divine intervention, Glenn was able to hunt and harvested a nice 8 point and a doe in W. Va.
This was an answer to many prayers. In March Glenn and his father were able to enjoy a father-son goat hunt with Island Exotic. Glenn took a beautiful goat with his cross bow and his Dad took one with a rifle.

The hunt was sponsored by Archery M.D., Huey’s Taxidermy, Daniel Boone and was filmed by Greg Krick. Glenn and his Dad mentioned that the hunt came at just the perfect time. For a couple of hours they were totaled focused on enjoying the hunt and forgot completely about the cancer. For that reason the hunt has been named “Glenn’s Moment of Peace” The mounts of the two animals , done by Huey’s Taxidermy, will be on display the day of the benefit shoot. It is appropriate that this shoot will be on Father’s day as you will not find a father and son closer than Glenn and his Dad. Glenn is an active member of the Grassland FFA at Garden Spot High School where he serves as an officer.. He is also a member of the Varsity Football Team and an active Boy Scout.

“Glenn is a “doer”. When there is work to be done and someone is needed to pitch in and lead the way to get things going, you can always count on Glenn. He leads by example and his attitude through this whole ordeal has been an inspiration to many. We hope many who know and love Glenn will support him on this day and help defray some of the mounting costs of his treatment. “ says Bob Lauffer, FFA Advisor at Garden Spot.
