If this does no make you cry...
If this does no make you cry, you are emotionally dead inside, or need to sell your bows and take up golf!
Strong words yes, but I think after you watch some of the upcoming videos, you will agree.
We just finished an amazing week here at camp.
Had about 100 "Developmentally Disable" campers and their helpers here at summer camp. It took some doing but we convinced their leader to let them try archery. Many people, those who had never shot before, thought we were crazy, and should have ambulances standing by. But the resident counselors and we knew better and insisted they could do it, and we did.
First we had to teach their helpers not only how to shoot themselves, but how to coach/help their buddies shoot. There were lots of challenges but I must honestly say this is the most rewarding experience in my archery life. My screen is blurry and tears are streaming down my face just typing this. I'm not ashamed to say this, and I hope it has the same effect on you.
[SIZE="3"]This first video is of a blind man shooting and his coach helping him.
For Coaching blind shooters, the process is that the coach helps hold the bow, but only for safety. the archer nocks the arrows and draws the bow with his helper guiding his drawing arm through contact with his own arm. When he's on target verbal commands are given left, right up down... when it's time to release a gentle tap on the wrist..... First shot, in the yellow!
Look at that pure joy in both thier faces.... This is why we do what we do.SandSquid
Gone camping in the mountains of Afghanistan.
Will return sometime in early/mid 2012.
