Angry Wolves in the North West

    Ok boys,
I have posted several replies to several threads but never posted one of my own. I live in SW Montana and have seen first hand the destruction the Northern Canadian Timber wolf is causing in my home state as well as Idaho and Wyoming. Now I understand most of you hale from Back east and thatís ok, there are a hundred reasons why not to live in paradise but we need all you boys east of the Wyoming border to get involved.
Ill start with the Yellowstone ecosystem. Inside Y Park the population of elk has dropped from 20,000+elk in 1995 down to somewhere between 5,000 and 10,000 elk. 10,000 if you listen to the tree huggers but a more realistic number would stand at around 6,500. In the Yellowstone river valley between the park and Livingston MT. elk numbers are almost gone compared to years past and the moose pop. is almost zero.
The Frank Church and River of No Return wilderness in Idaho is almost devoid of elk unless you own a bordering private ranch and control wolf predation.
You will see ID and MT have to go to a permit draw in a couple years if something is not done!
    This is unacceptable!
You will not be able to come out west in the future to take your children hunting and expect to see elk, let alone harvest one if your senators donít get actively iinvolved in favor of wolf control.
I could write a book on all that is wrong out here with the liberal base back east pushing to keep wolves on the endangered list.
I want to see your comments and better yet, I want to hear how you are writing letters to the editor in local news papers and getting in touch with your congressmen and senators on this issue.
We have to change Judge Malloy's ruling and turn the west back to those who live here and to those who love to come out here and hunt Elk, Moose, and Mule deer. Its not to late yet, but in just a few short years it will be.

    Get involved!!!!!!!!

I am with you on this. I went on a trip last year and everyone was talking about the decline in elk numbers. I will never understand the reason why we brought back such an animal and we need to kill them out.

I'm indifferent in the whole Wolf thing but killing an animal to extinction is reckless and irresponsible..would you say the same about other apex predators such as bear and mountain lions ? Last time I checked you cant hunt in Yellowstone anyways.

If you are indifferent to this you have no interest in hunting.
If you are indifferent to this you donít want your children to be able to hunt in the west.
Wake up you guys!!!!!!!!! Its fading away right in front of your eyes and you are indifferent to it. You are probably indifferent to the way Obama is running our country into the ground by spending more than your children will ever be able to repay as well. Your children will not have as good of quality of life in America as you did, and you are just sitting by on the side line and watching it all go away.
Well its indifference that makes everything good go away! Its just being to lazy to take a stand for what you know is right! Hell yes I am against Grizzly Bears and Lions! If my wife and I were bow hunting in the Gravely Range and she got attacked I would not be able to live with it all, and its because people are indifferent to the fact that a few years ago we had elk NOT WOLVES, NOT GRIZZLY BEARS AND NOT LIONS. Now th...... OH I wish some of you people in the east would actually analyzes whatís going on in your own country
and see that Socialism has started and politicians are running our country into the ground because of special interests and indifference.
Your children will not hunt if you are indifferent. Remember that when your grandson asks you why he cannot go to the Rocky Mountains and hunt elk like the men used to be able to in the old days! Its comming because your indifferent.
I am a Bowhunter Education instructor. I am on commities to change game laws in the west. I am a registered member of the Tea Party in Montana and I try to make a difference so my son will be able to enjoy life in America. Not sit on the sideline and say "I am indifferent to the distruction of what I love"

No you cannot hunt in Yellowstone Park. Teddy Roosevelt set that land aside for animals to roam freely and America to come and see how beautiful the west is and all of its animals. He also took part in exterminating wolves so that it was all possible. Now people who stand on the sideline and special interest groups have cleaned Yellowstone park of Elk, Mule deer and Moose.
Make a trip to Yellowstone next summer and see how many of these animals you see. I went through the park in 70's the 80s, thought the 90's and again this last summer. The park was an alive and venerate place. Not now. Its dead. There are no great herds of Mule deer or elk anywhere. Not in the park or for that matter outside the park. Indifference is causing real America to go away quickly. Liberals are causing the America of your grandparents to be gone and never coming back.
Please donít be indifferent to what you know is wrong.

Reckless: No, there were aproximatly 500 Prarie wolves in Montana and Idaho before the introduction of Northern Canidian Timber Wolves. Now the ancient prarie wolf of the Yellowstone ecosystem is almost extinct. This is the fact no one wants you to know. This is true indifference to special interest groups changing things to their grand illusion of how things might be in their butterfly and granola dreams.

Man has the responsibility to do what is right with all animals. To allow such a animal to run free with no governing of its herd size is a massive distaste to humanity. The wolves need to be managed to a small size and was fine with their existance up far in the north. The truth is we have great numbers of all wildlife nowadays due to the fact we controled the slaughtering of animals by humans and prey. The Wolf is very destructive to all animals. In the majority of the us we do not have a problem with predators slaughtering the mass of our animals most are small and eat smaller game for most part. If allowed to run free it will be a sure disaster on more levels than wildlife. Our livestock will be and are slaughtered now. It would be nice to live in a world where we all held hands and sang ol how peaceful we are, but we dont and it just can never be that way. We have to make hard decisions for the masses of people and or animals to survive, and in my opinion reintroducing these wolves was one of mans biggest mistakes. You think we have a out of control DOG and CAT population now wait 15 20 more years when the wolves have that type of numbers. We will be sorry. Oh then lets see everyone say ol poor little dogs.

I watched a video of 3 of these wolves take down a moose...3! I know the Elk population in Yellowstone was getting way too big and the ecosystem was suffering, but I think managing the elk herd could have been done without introducing an uncontrollable predator at the top of the food chain. Call me crazy, but allow hunters and charge for tags...what a concept! How does anybody lose in that scenario? Elk pop gets controlled, and some lucky hunters get to take an incredible trophy while the government makes more money!!! nah, lets reintroduce the apex predator so one day we will have to use tax dollars to have the government go in and kill them all again...sheesh.

WHich problem do you really have?

Is it the wolves or people in the east? I doubt you care about any problems that people in the "east" have yet we are supposed to be so concerned with what YOU perceive to be a problem. If you are going to stand on your soapbox asking for help and a voice than you should not slam those same people because of where they are from. As far as someone being indifferent, well that is their right to be that way. It has nothing to do with Tea Party or any party. I am a Republican but can see well enough to know that the Liberals are not the only problem in this country in Washington. Maybe you need to wake up and open your eyes because your anti- eastern, liberal, indifferent hate is showing what kind of person you really are. Your grandchildren will probably will not be proud to say your name when you stand on a pillar of hate.

I understand most of you hale from back east and thats ok, there are hundreds of reasons why not to live in paradise, but we need you boys east of the Wyoming border to get involved.
Does this sound like I have a problem with anyone back east?

With what I perceive to be a problem? Would you say that the moose population being depleted by 75% in large areas due to wolf predation in Idaho and MT since 1995 is a perceived problem? I think most would classify this as a real problem, {ask the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation for instance} Look at the ATA's official stance on wolves!. Not Perception. Fact.

    Did I say anything about where anyone was from when I said "You guys need to wake up". I said it is not good to sit on the sideline and watch America loose a beautiful and renewable resource {Elk, Moose and Mule Deer} and sitting on the sideline and not taking a stand against something that is bad is being lazy, or not caring about a part of the sport we love {Hunting}
I was NOT saying anything about where anyone was from when I said you need to "get involved" and donít sit on the sideline!

    Anti eastern liberal indifference hate?
Where did you come up with the idea I had anything at all against anyone from the east?? I am upset at peoples indifference to loosing a large part of Americas hunting privilege!

{Standing on a pillar of hate} Your words not mine.
I simply donít like the fact that wolves and grizzly bears are being allowed to
go unchecked unless they have already attacked a person{in many cases even if they have attacked a person they are left alone because a biologist said the animal was acting in a defensive posture, not an offensive posture}, or proven to have killed live stock in at least 3 instances. We should not have to worry about our family members being attacked in our back yards. {literally} People in the west are being attacked and killed by grizzly bears and or mountain lions while walking near their homes in most every state west of the Nebraska.
Wolves draw family dogs away from homes to kill them. Wolves kill hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of livestock that belongs to family farmers every year, Most of which is never recovered! Ranchers are having to sell off portions of their livelihood every year because liberals introduced Northern Canadian timber Wolves.

The problem I really have is people donít care enough to learn about what is going on in their country, and liberals are succeeding in depleting our hunting heritage in every part of America! This is wrong in my book, how about yours?

What problems do you have in the east that has anything to do with the subject of losing a valuable hunting resource? If you have a problem that affects all of us, I will do my part to get involved!
Write about them, tell us how passionate you are about the problem and we will all get involved! I wont criticize your view point as long as its for our hunting heritage. Donít stand on the sideline and bad mouth those who are involved, Get Involved yourself!

    Thanks for your comments 'sin'ergy.

    Mt,

The problems we, you have with wolves was not created by people in the east that needed to wake up. It was created by people in mt that need to wake up.

you think that people hear need to wake up and do something about what happens in mt and that we all know what your problems are? If mt was awake how did this happen in the first place.

Do we care? Yes! Do we know what to do? NO! Hell I don't even know what the mt state capital is.

We have problems to. In Valley Forge park Pa is going to shoot 500 deer a year for the next 3 years for a price tag of 2.5 million. And then the sharpshooters are going to incinerate the carcasses. If as a hunter that is not a problem for you to see animals slaughtered and wasted like trash Then i don't know what kind of hunter you are. The question is how many people have you spoken to in Harrisburg ( pa state capital) to do something about this problem. My guess is none. I have spoken to two pa state reps, The Governor and even us congressmen Gerlack who represents my district.
But I don't blame people in Mt for problems in pa. nor do I accuse them of being indifferent to any of the problems we face. The simple fact is that It is up to people in those states to protect wild life of there state for the rest of the nation.

Maybe you should get some of those canadian timber wolves to help with those deer in PA, I'd wager that you'd soon understand what MTbowhunter is talking about.

I have no doubt MT, ID and especially WY would solve this problem, but they aren't allowed to manage their own wildlife because of anti-hunting groups filing lawsuits to prevent any control of these animals. MTbowhunter is just trying to make the voice of protest against these delays louder and wider spread.

BTW, the timber wolf is not endangered, it's an introduced non-native species. Just because you take an animal and put it in a different place, does not mean that species only has as many animals left are in this new area. Even if all these were exterminated from MT, ID and WY, there would still be tens of thousands (at least) left in their natural environment.

    Supermag,
Let me tell you that wolves would never be introduced to PA because we the people would not let it happen and if it did happen we would be sure to vote those responsible out and elect people that have a clue what an ecosystem is.

I do under stand what he is talking about and I agree that something needs to be done. And they should be able to control there herd just as we do with white tail in pa. I do under stand that the introduction of a non-native species Is the rape of that habitat.
I however do not think that people 3000 miles away are to blame nor do i point to people in Wy, Mt, Id, not knowing what is going on in the country as being the problem hear in PA.

Have a problem with activist groups? fine, then it has NOTHING to do with us easterners not knowing what is going on in the country.

I have demonstrated what I have done to right the wrongs in pa. Can you say that you or Mtbowhunter have done the same in your own state. If you have good but don't go blaming your problems on people 3000 miles away.
Instead ask for help, let us know who to contact and we will do what we can. That would be the way to make the voice of protest against these delays louder and wider spread.

I was unaware that anyone was saying that timber wolves are endangered.
Go to northern Canada and you will see that they clearly are not.

Thanks for all of your comments.
This forum has become an arguement amongst bowhunters because I said you guys in the east need to wake up and take action before there is nothing left to hunt in the Rocky Mountains.
I can assure you I have written several letters to the editor in Montana news papers, to which I get lots of support and thank you's from ranchers as well as sportsmen.
    I have written the montana governer several letters demanding action, but he is a demicratic liberal and just replies {Please speak to the game commission}
I have written all MT congressmen with the same results Except for Congressmen Denny Rehberg who strongly supports the controll of the NW wolf problem.
I have spoken at local tea party convensions on this issue to standing applauze because All locals understand the problems we are facing and we have taken a stand on the issue of wolves but liberal special intrest groups keep blocking action because they know they can.
    I do take action
I am a member of our regions committee to help change game laws for the betterment of our hunting future.
I know most of you are involved as well, I was asking more of you to get involved in the wolf mismanagment that is taking place here, because if you ever desire to come to the west and elk hunt it will soon be to late.

Now lets focus on the topic, I will quit criticizing for indifference, Together we can make a difference. If we dont, there will be nothing left to hunt and the liberals will have won the battle they have set out to win.

Tell us what we can do. Who to contact, who to wright to, what organizations we can donate to.

How do they block action? do they have a court issue an injunction? If they do what court will decide the case. Is it a liberal court.

Post up some links that people can go to to read about what is happening.

Don't be to sure of that....they found a way to introduce wolves in the U.P of michigan.

Now we have a shrinking deer herd and the wolves are spreading like a bad rash. How long before they make there way to lower michigan and Wis? My guess is they are already here.

Guys it is the liberal groups such as peta and humane society that is spending the money making these laws on a federal level not a state level. The real question is what is our NRA, DU, NWTF, RMEF, why have these guys not got together and defeat these groups. I mean I think if we campain alone on bringing in a non native animal that is killing out a native animal, we could get some action taking place. Lets let our groups know that we are disappointed in there efforts. Heck they should have billboards in PA calling out the unethical slaughter to deer by the sniper shooters and it is costing taxpayers money instead of making the state money.......

We donate and support these groups lets let them know. That should be a good start.
