Default MickeBee.. Tell us about the Specialist

I was going to put this into the "what bow are you going to buy" thread but I thought I would post a new one.

Give us the run down on the Specialist since none of us have one yet.

    I shall do my best..........

It all started last year after buying a D 340. Had it bare shaft tuned in a couple of twists and, after adding a little weight, I was off to the races and extremely happy. Somewhere along the line I began to wonder why all this good stuff was not in a target format.....well all of a sudden, there it was and I was placing an order without ever having shot one.

    Anyways......

With the exception of some drool, the general appearance of the bow was flawless. It was maxed out at 62.3lbs with a draw a bit on the long side and a very solid wall. The grip (no side plates) fit well in my hand. Vibration was minimal but noticeably and understandably more than the 340 but still, a non-issue. Still doing some tweeking but even in it's current state all I can say is:

    THIS BOW IS AWESOME !!!

That's excellent. Was the draw a full 1/2" long or less than that?

I expect it will have more vibration than the D340 since mine has NONE. I can't wait for it to come in. If it doesn't arrive before the ATA show, I'm going to try to make them give me one from the ATA Show to take home with me.

Yes, it was 1/2" on the long side but there is plenty of adjustment. With the indexable mods and a little twisting, you can put her anywhere you want.

I have a bow I'm hoping for. But will also check this out to see what the specialist is about.

I found the same thing when tuning the D340. It's so easy to tune them compared to some other bows I've shot. I expect the same thing out of the Specialist.

Hows the draw compared to the D340?

They both have there own feel and since I have most of the valley twisted out of the Sp and at 52#/65% as opposed to 60#/80% on the 340, I don't know if my opinion would have any significant meaning but I did take some numbers off my draw board.

The Specialist hit peak at 20" and started to drop at 24".

The D340 hit peak at 15" and started it's drop at 23".

Not sure if the larger number changes with the mod location (forgot to look).

    Hope this helps.

MickeyBee, that's enough info to tell that the draw will be smoother. I will have mine setup at 65% so I get a cleaner release with the back tension.

i just talked to tibbits again today and he has nothing but great things to say about it. He said its the target bow he has been waiting for from bowtech. He is super excited about this years target season now that he has a bow he likes. His DL was spot on and Poundage was a couple on the high side

Wonder if this bow will keep Matt Varnes shooting a Bowtech or if the contingency money of the other companys will steal him away?

Matt is shooting the Specialist. His words are "It's an incredible bow."
He has also gone on record to say that it's the best bow he's ever felt right from the start. Jerry Carter is shooting one too. He's said and Matt has said he's never seen Jerry shoot better.
Time will tell. I am sure Matt will shoot it very well. I am sure Jerry will shoot his very well.

I have heard great things about the bow, but this not the first I've heard that they run long. I'm 29" draw, and for now I would like some valley and 80% let off...if I go with this bow, am I better off just moving the mod to 28.5" or taking some twists out of the cable?

What speeds are you getting? I believe it is a cable stop on the bow, how is the wall? What arrow length, spine, and tip you shooting? Sorry for all the questions...just trying to do some figurin

I would simply rotate the mod if you can hit your DL sweet spot, if not, you may have to do some twisting.

Haven't shot the chrono yet and am not really concerned with the speed out of this bow. If I want a flat arrow I grab a differant tool (Monster 6).

Don't have a clue what poundage you are shooting so any other info is probably worthless to you. Don't have my software upgraded to '11 yet but can run some numbers for you using the 330 IBO if you would like.
