Thread: Target Release

  1. #1

    Default Target Release

I'm thinking about going from a hunter release to a target release. I don't know if that is the correct wording. Basically going from a release with a strap that goes around your wrist to a release that you hold in your hand. If I make that change how long does it take to adjust and what should a expect when i make the change. Any and all advise would be great.

that depends on you. everyone is different. some it may take a few weeks, others a few months.

For me the adjustment was finding a new anchor, and gaining confidence. I prefer the hand held.
Good luck. If possible, go to a shop that will allow you to try some out, see what fits most comfortable. Or buy used; most of my local shops only sell wrist straps. I tried quite a few hand helds and used worked great b/c I normally could sell for the same price I purchased them.

For me, I like the t- handle. I used to use a wrist strap. 2 problems I had was the trigger. I got to where I was punching the trigger. Also, drawing back, my shoulder started hurting. I thought I'd try a t-handle, and my groups were getting tighter and I noticed my shoulder wasn't hurting anymore. It's all about the different muscles in your arm. A friend of mine, told me that you use your tricep muscle more on a wrist strap, where as you use your bicep muscle more. I don't know too much, but I'm more accurate with the t-handle. Also the muscle is bigger in your thumb than in your fingers. If you adjust it right, and it will take some time and practice, the movement with your thumb will be minimal. Just my 2 cents worth!
