Oil companys have billions of $ invested, gas pipelines running underground nation wide, lobbists in hip pocket, they do not want to see us run on a corn based fuel.

It's not the government, but the American people. We are the most wasteful people on the earth and very spoiled by having cheap oil over the last 40 years.

You may not be aware of this, but I travel all over the world and in many countries gas prices are nearly double what they are here in the states, but the average per capita income is about 1/3 what it is here. That's one reason they walk, or ride bicycles, or drive little cars or scooters. They don't commute 20 or 30 miles to work, but live close enough they can walk. And in doing so they are a healthier bunch for it.

I remember living in Greece in 1970 and gas there was $1.00/gal at that time while here in the states it was 25 cents. So considering the difference in the cost of living they were paying about 8 times what we were. So really, we don't have it so bad.

On top of that we need to leave our government out of it. They have done nothing but screw things up for the last 50 years. We need to do more ourselves, like learn to conserve. The more we ask our government officials to do is just giving up more of our rights and they are glad of it. This is how they keep us under their thumbs.

Let's leave the corn for food and feed, ethanol is hard on motors and it raises food prices. The energy it takes to make ethanol is almost a wash compaired to the energy it takes to make ethanol.

I don't care what they pay for gas in Canada, England or some BF country in europe and I'm tired of that same old arguement about we don't pay our fair share......we pay our fair share everytime there's a problem or crisis in some crap hole country.

With the money and lives we lost in Iraq we should be getting free oil. We should be charging for every military man hour spent in that crap hole area. Or for that matter anytime the world calls on us to fix a problem we should be charging. What a way to fix our deficit in a hurry.

Some may not care what gas prices are in other countries, but the fact remains that as developing countries do develop over time the demand for oil will increase in proportion. That may lead to oil going to the highest bidder. Who knows? It may lead to a world war. I hope not but it's always a posibility.

As for the lives lost in Irag and other countries? I grieve for the families also, but people forget that in WW II we lost as many troops at Omaha Beach in one day as we have in the war in Iraq to date, and today the French back the USA in virtually nothing. As a political group they are still as much a bunch of cowards as they were back then, bending over rather than fight for their freedoms.

OK, this has little to do with the price of oil. Sorry for that. The fact remains that the Saudis and others have oil. We use 25% of all the oil produced worldwide. We want it. We have to pay for it. Instead of bitching about it we need to take action and the best action is to change the way we live. We sure can't leave all the decisions to our politicians and military.

Default The spoils of war goes to the Victors

Or we could lift the drill ban, cut some red tape and get some refineries up and running and become alittle more oil independent. Flip the middle east the bird and tell them to take a hike and watch the price drop when they found out we don't need to play there stupid games no more.

Instead of playing the world policeman for free we need to be the world missionarys and start charging the world for moving those aircraft carriers and bombs.

Nuke all the Middleeastern cities, run the survivors back into the desert leaving them only with tents and camels. Move all the able bodied prisoners and make them work off there sentences in the radio active oil fields.

Man, you guys are a mean bunch!!! LOL. I know the US has it's own oil reserves and areas to drill and it's cetainly another choice. However, the main reason I talk about learning to conserve it that I take a longer look into the future and not just MY immediate needs. I don't think anybody can estimate with any accuracy how much oil there really is, but I also think that it isn't gong to last forever. We're not about to run out during our lfetimes, but what about future generations? Or don't we care about them either?

I do concur with the comments about military spending, though. We go too far playing world cops. As for nuking all the arabs? Sorry, but like it or not we don't happen to own the world. Let's be real about it.

If we care about future generation we will take care of this problem here and now and cease being punked out by the oil cartels. These small countries are controlling our economy through oil it's time to take control back.

Seems like when one of those diaper heads burps or farts the news tells us that prices will go up. What happens? The price goes up because the people are expecting it, so the gas companies are making billions. The oil that the US buys today will not be sold as gas for a few weeks, so why the sudden jump?

The thing that gets to me outside of the price of course. Is, they raise the price on the gas that is already in the tanks at the store. They have already paid for that gas at a certain price. They are supposed to charge us accordingly. But what do they do? Charge more for what they already have paid for and is in the ground.
