    Default Target Bow Suggestions

Just what the title says I need some suggestions on a new target bow. All the archery sites are blocked here at work and by the time I get home the computer is the last thing I want to look at so I haven't researched the newer models much.

I'm looking for something to give my 07 Constitution a run for it's money. I'm looking for something in the 40" ATA range, but more importantly in the 320 fps range which is making the search harder. Brace height around 7 1/2 +.

I have an Elite XLR, but the speed is just not there since I like to shoot 400+ grain target arrows.

So what's out that that fits the bill?

Side question: What is the difference in measuring FPS in ATA vs. IBO?

I noticed the other day Hoyt list there manufactured speeds in ATA but I don't know how that compares to measured typical IBO speeds at 30" and 70#'s.

ATA is measured at 70 lbs and 30" DL and a 350 grain arrow. While IBO allows the use of 5 grains per pound with a 30" DL (so you could check it at 80 lbs with a 400 grain arrow).

I did see the Specialist. I'd like the ATA to be longer but with that speed I wouldn't have a problem with my heavy 3D arrows. I can't tell but from the pictures it looks like BowTech make the grip thicker (front of riser to back) which I may not like.

Okay, I guess I thought that 70# and 30' DL with a 350 grain arrow was the IBO standard.

Can anyone tell me if the Hoyt target bows are getting or exceeding there listed speeds?

I'm looking at the PSE Dominator Pro Hybrid and an I know it will reach it's IBO speed of 319, but I'm also interested in the Hoyt Vantage Elite Plus and wondered since it's measured in ATA if it will reach or exceed the 315fps listed with the spiral cams?

You are correct....70#s and 30"s is the IBO standard.

Hoyts will reach their stated IBO speed with ease....most people are able to exceed them rather easily in most cases.

I have a Bowtech Specialist and love it. The grips aren't any thicker than the Contitution or a Destroyer. It's a great bow and very forgiving.

The Specialist is not quite as long as you mentioned but it gets good speed. I would check it out if I were you. It seems pretty forgiving too.

vanatage Elite with Spirals is 1 bad dude. Rt at 40 in ATA and ibos about 315. It shoots faster than that but thats Hoyts specs. 7 3/4 brace. Just an awesome bow. You know that I really beleive in Hoyts. You wont go wrong with the Vantage Elite.

Yeah, I like the Vantage Elite, but what about the GTX cams? I'd like to be at 75% letoff and with the spirals I could only be at 60-65% lettoff I believe.

I dont have any Personal Experience with the GTX cams but I do KNow they shoot awesome. If you like the Cam and Half then you will like the GTX cams cause they are basically souped up Cam and Halfs. Ive heard nothing but good about em.
