Default What # to use long bow

I want to shoot target and dear with a long bow. What is a good over all poundage for both. My arrow length with a compound is 30 inch. Any other sight with info would be appreciated.

    A few questions for you.
    Have you shot Trad bows?
    Or are you new?
What poundage do you hunt with your compound?
    Tradgang.com has lots of info.

My son when he first started out,he was at 30lb's and killed a few deer.I used to hunt with a 45lb bear recurve and slayed a few with it.

Many, many years ago I shot a 45# recurve, were I to go back I would still use a 45# bow.

40lbs is enough, use a sharp 2 blade or small diameter 3-4 blade. Tradtalk is another good site. But don't be a stranger, a few of us here shoot longbows and recurves too.
