I wish! haven't been able to get out much. With the Custom string business its hard to get out. Mid Oct I should be able to get out a lot. But the one time we did go out, didn't see anything but heard a doe calling out and a buck responded with a grunt. Now that was cool.

Down my way, traditionally, the 2nd week of Nov is when to be in the woods to catch a big-boy.
We normally see a few deer the first week of our season (mid Oct)and then it falls off ( I presume they're creeped out about smelling us suddenly and take a different route) but things settle down about the beginning of Nov. Maybe because bucks are starting to push around. Week 2 of Nov things explode. Deer I never saw before, deer coming from unpredictable directions, etc. Supposed to be a cold winter so I don't know if those time-lines will hold true this year. We have what I would consider a normal acorn crop this year and they are dropping now. Our animals have a pretty good coat already also. I think they are right about it being cold. Stock up on long-undies.

Still waiting to start (Oct 21)
Took a walk in the woods today in my hunting area and had to clear a lot from last winter's 2 storms.
I'd gone through it back in spring with a chainsaw . I'm surprised at what has come down since. jumped something between stands.
    So far so good.

Small trees bent over everywhere and larger ones uprooted, from last season's snows. Looks like the woods blew-up.

Our season opened today, and I spent it on the road. Had an awesome weekend in NW NJ. Beautiful country. Soybean and corn fields. You'd never believe it was New Jersey. Just north of where rt 80 goes over the Delaware. So back home in Ma now, ready to get going

Looks like Kansas starts 9/15/2014 and runs through 12/31/2014, GF's son going to college there and checking out hunting opportunities.

September 20th in Michigan. One of my work colleagues always hunts up in the UP every year and never fails to bring back some fresh spicy venison jerky. Delicious.
