Moved a stand yesterday and I'm going to get out the climber and do a little limb cutting today.

My .GF's son just started college in Kansas, says there are deer everywhere and bow season is about to start. Unfortunately, he won't be considered a resident for six months or so, and non-resident tags are rather pricey. I could be wrong about the resident status, the Kansas Dept. Of Wildlife etc. website makes me think he might be eligible for resident tags now, though he may have to take the archery hunters safety course as he's only taken the firearm hunters' safety course previously, and apparently they're separate now? IDK, have to do some more digging.

As it turns out, out-of-state students attending college in Kansas only have to have proof of status as a student to be eligible for resident permits. They need to be carrying that proof with them while hunting. I'm still not sure as to the hunter's education requirements, but there's a Dept. Of Parks, etc. office close to him, so they can get it sorted.

This last weekend was IN's Youth Deer weekend. The boy I have been working with decided to take the bow out for the Sat. night sit (he's been using my Martin and doing well with it). About 40min before dark he sees 3 deer coming in from the left ( 2 does and a yearling) and they are looking like they are going to give him a 17 - 18 yd broadside shot. I'm thinking, wow first time out with a bow and he's going to get it done; it's not always so easy JW. At about 30yds. away he raise his bow up and "clang" he hits the stand with the bow; white flags and blowing deer. Oh well, I give him a lot of credit for putting the rifle away and going after it.
