This is not necessarily just for opening day, but it works for that just the same...

I check my bow and arrows/broadheads and release out pretty closely to be sure nothing is "messed up" or loose. If something is not right I fix it right away, if I can, and not take any chances. I pack my vehicle the night before -> bow, climber, day pack, boots, hat. I put some snacks and water in my pack and make sure all my normal stuff is in there (gut hook, gambrel/hoist, flashlight, hoist rope, safety harness, gloves, wee-wee bottle, deer drag, etc...). I pre-heat my thermos with hot water and fill it with extra hot coffee the night before. Sometimes I also bring hot soup in a lunch type thermos. I leave that inside if it's cold out and just grab it when I walk out the door.
Before I leave I shower using baking soda or scentless soap and put my clothes on in the garage (attached), so I don't pick up and funky scents. I wear sneakers and no hat until I get to the hunting property and then put on my boots and hat which I keep in a scent free container. I then spray the bottoms of my boots with water/baking soda and head out.
I guess I just like to get most of the stuff out of the way the night before so I can sleep a little longer and not be rushed and forget something.

Then I meet up with my buddies and we decide who's going where and head out. We usually keep touch by cell phone (vibrate mode) to see what's been moving, if anything.

    typically I:

    - sleep like crap the night before, get one to 2 hours sleep because I'm so excited

    - get up before the alarm goes off, turn off alarm, shower and go get all my gear out of the dryer

    - get dressed

    - get undressed to underlayer and put harness on, get dressed again.

    - get undressed to go use the bathroom, get dressed again

    - forget to put on harness, get undressed, put on harness, get dressed again

    - hunt for that one missing item I always forget about, normally either my binos, release, bow, gloves, hat, flashlight, dragrope... etc

    - fill up water bottle, grab a few breakfast bars

    - leave quietly about 20 minutes after I wanted to

    - get to spot and climb tree, drop something

    - sleep for 2 hours

    - wake up because of an annoying tree rat.

    - shoot treerat

    - fall back asleep for 2 hours

    - wake up, climb down, go home

    - complain about not seeing any deer but brag about the dead tree rat.

You forgot about going back to the truck twice for stuff you forgot. Other than that I would swear you have been keeping tabs on me opening day.

I just take a deep breath and say thanks for bringing another season.

Of course now I am taking my son, and he is still antsy. So there is alot of SSSSSHHHHHHHHHH going on.

Deer have a very funny state of body language when a 9 year old pokes his head out of the window of a ground blind and sez...... there is an 8 point dad, shoot em!!!

The trick is to shoot the smaller ones... they are easier to throw on a spit and dumb enough that my snoring attracts them instead of scaring them away

no pen just a good place and we have a very liberal bag limit here so long as we shoot a lot of does.

On my reg deer hunting days, i leave my packs and my bow in my truck with clean changes of clothes, blast home from work, hop in the truck, and 20 min later im at my spot, get dressed and 20 min walk to my stand. I have lots of muchies in my truck along with a 5gal water cooler, ill fill my bladder and grab 5 or 6 candy bars as needed.
