Default Starting to see some rut activity in northern IL

I have been getting reports that people are starting to see some rut activity. A buddy shot a nice 8 pointer on saturday evening that followed a scent drag like he was on a string.

I talked to another guy tonight that stated he managed to get between a doe and a 14 pointer and the buck would not run off. Yes, he was on the ground and the buck saw him. It just kept coming back and he shot it at 25 yards. Double drop tines on this dandy.

I personally have not seen any real chasing yet. I had one buck check out a couple does in a field I was sitting on and the does ran off. He didn't follow. This was 4 days ago.

Seems like each day is improving the buck sightings. I am starting a morning ritual to be on stand every day till a big one falls.

    Default Hopefully just getting started

I have seen different bucks the last 5 times out. Only one chasing though, that was on the 29th. The only monster I've seen was on the 19th, he has a drop tine on each side. Hope to see him again next week.
