Default 1st night - doe down

So I couldn't hunt the opener because of the birth of my son Matthew. Last night was my first night out. Because of normal dad responsibilities I had to compromise with my hunting options so I went out to a small woods close to my house after work. After sitting 2 1/2 hours seeing nothing but my own blood being sucked out by mosquitos I heard a little action. Three deer (a doe with fawn and a yearling dry doe) came bumbling out into a clearing I was watching. At 22 yards I drew and - thump - got to hear once again that unmistakable sound of arrow hitting heart/lungs. A small trail led to my first bow kill of the year. By the time I got back and unloaded, I didn't have the light or energy to take photos. She should taste good, however!

Congrats on your clean harvest. I can smell the backstraps on the grill already. What times dinner?

I always seem to plan my kids for AFTER season! The third is coming in January! 4 days after the 2nd one was born!

Proper Planning!!!

I admit that this was poor planning on my part but as a concession - I can give my son hunting stuff for his birthday!!!

Default meat care

Because it was warmer than usual, I cut this doe up the yesterday A.M. (the next morning) rather than let it hang. The meat looks real bright red and I would say great. I am going to cook some up tonight!!
