Heard the Snort Wheeze today for the first time ever.
Four pointer did it three times. There was two other small bucks in the area but they werent fighting. There was not a buck around when he did it ince. He was right under the tree.
Now my question is why they do this sound? Was pretty cool especially when he did right under the tree.

It’s an intimidation noise made by a buck telling everyone I’m king of the hill. Sounds like your forky must have eaten his wheaties.

The snort Wheez is a dominance call one buck letting another know that who’s boss this usually will entice a fight between two dominant bucks in an area
Blowing
Alerting other deer in the area is a signal - this is a blowing sound when you get busted – this is way different then the snort wheez call

Snort Wheeze
I am no expert but from what I have read and been told it is a dominance or challenge thing not representing an alert to danger. But like I said I am no expert. Oh no I just went back and read JDX's post hope I am not in trouble.

I had a nice 8 point in the feild with a dozen baldys and a small buck Friday night. I grunted like crazy and he wouldnt have anything to do with it. When he got 200 yards out and moving away I threw the snort wheeze at him(first time I have ever tryed it). He stopped and looked back. I did it again and he came on a rope. Got within 50 yards and locked up. His doe's kept going across the feild with the small buck. All I needed was 10 yards. ..He wouldnt come any closer. He just had to get back to his ladys I have never heard it in the wild though. that would be cool

This happens for the smaller bucks often. Good friend said he never seen a big buck do this.

I got the primos buck roar with the challenge weeze on it. Works absolutly amazing. I got a 5 point today using it. He was 254 yards by the range finder and I thought to myself, eh, what do I have to loose. So I did an agressive grunt followed by a challenge weeze and he went from 254 yards to the back of my truck in about 10 minutes. He came in so fast it was unbelieveable. I had a chance on a little 3 point earlier that morning and when I challenged him, he ran away because he knew he better get out of there. My 5 point ate his wheaties as well.

I heard it a couple years ago....he did it about 5x 25yds from me looking away. I was hoping a bigger buck would come in and give him the business, but nobody else showed up. It was cool....like JDX, wish I would have had the video camera!

I had a nice 3.5 year old 8 pointer that was hot on a doe right by my stand last week. A smaller 8 pointer came in to check out his doe and the larger buck got a real stiff posture and snort-wheezed 3 times. The smaller buck tucked his tail and ran on out in the field to the other does. Later the larger buck's doe went into the field and the larger 8 ran the smaller one out of the field.

I've heard this several times. Seems to be a dominance thing.
