Default Turkey bone structure is tough

Dont think we realize how tough those bones are in a turkey.

Didnt get a pass through on this bird. Ten yards at 260fps

This bird was coming quartering straigh at me. Used the lower right picture shot placement. Shooting low os the worse thing to do on a bord. Bones are in the upper partion of the birds.

Just thinking out loud... do you think it was bone structure or the feathers that stopped the passthrough? Mabey the light weight of a bird? I never shot one, but does a turkey get moved much buy the impact? It's not solid like a deer.

I use the same 125 gr magnus Stingers that I hunt everything else with and always pass through turkeys. Might just be luck though? The one I shot last year the arrow went another 25-30 yards after going through the bird as I had stalked up on him in a small drainage and was eye to eye with him.

I grew up using those black small game blunts and head shot them, but nowadays the regs require broadheads.

There is a pretty large group of turkey hunters that put a stopper ring behind the broadhead so the arrow doesn't pass through and all the energy from the arrow is transferred to the bird. Not a bad thought and it does have some merit, but I've never tried it.

Exactly, but what fun would it be if I couldn't find something to hassle you a little about?

Yes, we were shooing them off the cousre to set up our 3-d targets. One of the guys shot a 27 #'er just a ways from the range.

It isn't as bad here in Kansas as it was up in my hometown in North Central Nebraska. They are just lousy up there. They eat a pile of corn, but at least they keep the grasshopper population in check!

It is nothing to see flocks of over 500 birds up there around the Niobrara River. Here in KC a big group is more like 50-75 birds. I cleaned so many of those stinking things growing up that i'd just as soon buy a Butterball!

I think I was probably 10 or 11 when I shot my first one with my bb gun. Shot it right in the eye at about 5 feet! I laid under a cedar tree for ever waiting for that shot. After my grandmother made me clean it I didn't shoot another for several years! I'd still rather field dress a rutting buck antelope than a spring gobbler
