Default This may be a dumb question but...

will hens gobble? i'm pretty new to turkeys, and I been seein a few gobble that are pretty good size birds, usually in pairs or up to 4, never see them fan out, and I've only seen one with somewhat of a noticeable beard, more like a crooked feather though

Default They may

very well be jakes, have been holdin in the timber so its hard to get a real good look at em, i just hate to take a shot and find out it's a hen, but general consensus seems to be if it gobbles its either a jake or a tom

Hens will sometimes try to make a gobble like sound. They also will strut and have beards. Please don't shoot a turkey based on the sound it makes alone.

Thank you!

I have never heard of a hen gobbl'n, but they will have beards. It sounds to me like what you are describing are Jakes. The most likely reason that they are not strutting is that they have been around a more dominant bird that has pecked them repeatedly for trying to strut and therefore get the girls and they have learned to "keep it in their pants"
