White Oak Acorns Whats the deal!
Took a trip to the lease this morning.
Just wanted to check the white oaks out.
See once again the Red Oaks are going to make. The white Oaks dont look like the going to make now for the fourth year in a row.
How many years will they go?

Is 2250 acres that belongs to someone else that I pick the members and we lease the land to hunt. Works for me.

DB - this would be a good question to ask someone in forestry. Around here (eastern Ohio) the mast is fair one year, then poor the next. Pretty much runs the same for the reds

I wish I knew the answer. We haven't had any whites either for about the same amount of time.

Have you tried fertilizing the drip edge of your Oaks??? It can help tremendoulsy. By fertilizing them all each spring they all make some amount of mast. We only fertilize the white oaks we can set up on. Now on my northern michigan spot 120 miles north of me the acorns are so thick each year its like walking on marbles . Very few deer in the area to eat them though . Our reds are loaded this year like always. Havent been snooping around much to look at the whites in the bush.

Lots of Pecans but they dont look like there going to do well either. Deer really dont like pecans.

Acorn production usually begins when the tree is 50 years old however, it can occur as early as 20 years old when open-grown. White oak is capable of producing many acorns but, good drops usually only occur every 4 to 10 years. It is hot unheard of for white oak not to produce any acorns at all for years (Rogers, 1990).
