Can you make a ten yard shot?
How would you shoot this dime size 12 ring at ten yards with your hunting bow?
Not as easy as it looks. One would be amzed how many dont practice close shots.

But I don't have a 10 yard pin. I guess I'd aim about 1.0 inches low, maybe a 3/4", with my 20

I.m amazed some times at what yardages shooters think that they have to shoot on the short ones. I was telling a guy that on a 5 yd shot I use my 40 yd pin or setting. He said they is no way I'll shoot way over. Told him to try it. He said don't need to. I shoot turkeys out of a blind at 5 yds and just shoot the 20 low. I just said YEAH and left it at that.

I just checked it with my bow and with a 20yd setting it hits 2 ins low. This can be diff. on some bows and with other shooter because of lenght of sight window and/or anchor. On deer or turkey etc. that may still keep it in the kill zone but on some of the smaller 3D targets that will get you an 8 instead of a 12. Best thing still for me is learn where my bow impacts at diff, yardages.

I have been to some where they are even closer. That really messes people up. At 3 yds. or so you have to use your 30 yd. pin

We had a 3 yard target at the R-100 last weekend. Played havic with alote of shooters. I aimed high with my 20 yard pin (4 inchs) and shot the 12. Most would think to aim low at 3 or 4 yards but it actully works the oppisite way that close.

That close I'd kick some dirt in it's face and jab it with a F/P between the eyes! Or maybe not.

At 10yrds
I hold right in the bottom of the 12 ring. I may raise just a half inch at the most.
Reason I know this shot so well. I set my bows at ten yarsds first always.

Everyone’s sight setting is going to be different some at the extreme close ranges and for the most part it’s the difference in your peep height in relation to the arrow you take these 2 and your arrow is in a flight pattern for the first 0 to 8 yards underneath your line of sight then the arrow finally crosses the line of sight.
Dan
Very good info, Hunting or 3D on the big animals yes it probably doesn’t matter to much, but on small game or shooting turkey in the head it could be the difference between dinner and not.
On the 3D range you work so hard at getting 12s at 20-30-40-50 it really hurts when you’re not prepared to take a 12 ring at 5 to 10 - those cost you the most as far as mistakes.

20 yd pin held a little low. I practice this shot all the time for hunting. I took three does last year at less than 12 yds. They were all a little closer than I would like, but there weren't any other good trees in that area.

I agree, however the way that perticular stand is setup,it has a thick cover trail the dumps out about 14 yds from the stand. You can see the deer well enough before they get to you, but don't have a shot until they pop out of that cover. Not unless they come from the trail on the otherside. In which case you can not see them until they are at 40yds and can't get a clean shot until about 35yds.

I don't think everyone understands that all projectiles fallow a ballistic trajectory. If you could see the flight path of an arrow you would see an arch not a line that starts to drop.
