Now Dan you know that Vegas is not the NFAA. Vegas belongs to the WAF even though the NFAA owns the WAF and the officials are the directors and council members and the President of the NFAA is also the President of the WAF.

'sides they can't figure out how to cash in on a streaming video...

I 'spect that would cause a bit of interesting dialogue. I like Jimmy and would enjoy seeing him win Vegas, but I'm not a fan of mulligans or not counting X's... But it's "THEIR" game and "THEY" make the rules so if we want to play we got to comply..

To me Braden won the tournament. I know the shoot down creates more drama, but the best shooter didn't win and that's not right. Braden beat the guy that won by 9 x's.

Rules were set in place a long time ago. Vegas sets these rules to make a pressure event and shootdown. Its exciting and awesome event. Just think about how many watch Vegas because of the shootdown. Keep archery exciting.

Watching Jesse and Braden shoot off for Gold in Nimes wasn't drama... you shouldn't have to win a tournament twice..

But there are several tournaments with rules that count the X and they are gaining in popularity every year.

Default Trillus nailed it

Amazing how quick he gets on target and shoots.

Dietmier just keep his cool and got it done.

Once again just shows BT release isnt the total answer.

Very impressive win for his age and shooting a wrist strap.

I disagree Javi, I think of the first 90 arrows as a qualifier to earn a spot in the shootoff.

I agree that the x-counting tourny's are growing, but that doesn't mean everyone should switch to that format. I think the reason those shoots are growing has more to do with the amateur guys like me that aren't 60x or Vegas 300 shooters feel like we have more of a chance of competing.

Everyone gives lip-service to wanting archery to grow, but then they oppose efforts to make the events more marketable to the mainstream tv audience. The "lucky-dog" shoot off did just that.

I would like to see the pro shoot-off go to a face-to-face shoot off pairing the top "qualifiying" shooter paired with the bottom. Two ends with standard scoring and then go to sudden death. It may take longer, but it sure would be more entertaining for tv.

That will be the best way to see shooters with Sprint, Coca-Cola, Budwieser, etc shirts.

Reo would probably be the "UPS" guy in brown

I can see Jesse with a big bright blue Ford oval on his back

Griv would probably be the "Dell" guy

Chance could have the "golden arch"...seeing a skinny guy like him kinda makes me want to buy a sandwich....he he

Hmmm, who would wear the Viagra shirt?

They've had the shoot down in Vegas for several years now... still ain't seeing no TV...

Yet I can watch many smaller events on live streaming feeds from Europe..

Maybe they ought to try something else.. And I don't think a mulligan is the secret to finding TV sponsorship...

It seems the shoot-offs are less about archery and more about mental endurance and the ability to perform under pressure.

The guys that make the shoot-off are capable of stooting X's all day long in a no pressure situation. Archery skill is just the qualifier to get to the shoot -off. So is the shoot off the measure of the best archer? If the ability to make the critical shot under pressure makes someone the better archer, then yes.

In football, it's not always the quarterback with great stats than is more valued. It's the one who has the stats AND can lead a 4th quarter comeback drive that gets the MVP award.

One thing that's happened a couple of times recently is that the guy with the best X count eventually loses in the shoot-off. It happened to Reo at Lancaster last year and to Braden at Vegas this year. What's that about? Is it a case of overconfidence? Or somethnig else?

Ont that Viagra sponsorship - I wouldn't touch that one. Too many bad jokes about Viagra and shaft spine

About 43 years ago, I was shooting a field archery tournament in Ft. Smith Arkansas. The range meandered thru a raw piece of real estate that was dotted with trash dumps. I had no problems with that, it was a good a layout. The thing that amused me that day was that I was shooting with new gung-ho archer, he was whipping me good, we looked across a gully and there was a pristine kept golf course. The young guy said " in a few years, archery will be on the same level as golf". I was also shooting with another guy who was a friend, after his statement, we just looked at each other a grinned.---- Archery in the USA will never be any more than what it is. I love archery and it will always be part of me until I die. It will never be a TV spectator sport. Archery is a participant sport. If you shoot a bow you might watch an archery tournament. My wife does not play golf nor shoot a bow, but loves to watch golf tournaments, she could care less about watching someone shoot a bow. I can put up a 5 spot target and shoot all of arrows into the center time after time, my wife will watch for a few arrows then gets bored and leaves. Now if I put beer cans on the fence and shoot at those, I think she would watch that. Guys don't beat me up too bad for sounding negative, but the truth is the truth. The old nemesis target panic causes a lot of archers to have a short stint in archery. You have to really love archery to over-come its demons.

I sort of agree w/ both Javi and huntelk on this.

It is kinda bogus that you prove you're the best after a grueling 3 days and get nothing for it.

I think it would be more entertaing to see a head to head shootoff in a ranked bracket as apposed to what it is now.

But it is what it is and the rules are the same for everyone. I just think it could be more than it is.

I prefer a head to head elimination style tournament where last man standing wins...

But the format isn't the reason archery can't get televised in the states... money is... put a $1,000,000 first prize on the turn of a single arrow and it will make TV.... No one is that excited today to see a few thousand dollars divided 50 ways between classes..

While it's easy for the rest of us to pass judgment on the top pro guys and say who shoulda, coulda, won, we forget that this is a TOUGH sport. One that is mentally exhausting at times, especially at the top of the professional level. Your reading too much into this, it is likely that Braden or Reo simply got tired. But I would trade my shooting problems for theirs any day.

I like the format......it adds a lot of excitment to indoor target shooting. the 90 arrows are just the qualifier to the real shoot.

what I would like to see is a shoot down. I ve watch how they do it in Europe, and it makes for some interesting and exciting TV

But the format isn't the reason archery can't get televised in the states... money is... put a $1,000,000 first prize on the turn of a single arrow and it will make TV.... No one is that excited today to see a few thousand dollars divided 50 ways between classes..
I think JAVI's idea about an elimination style tournament is the answer. Last week golf had a match play tournament. It starts out with the top seeds playing the lower seeds. The ideal out come is to have all the tops seeds to make it thru till the finals. In a elimination format, you will not only have to be accurate but also have nerves of steel. It's like having several small tournaments with in a tournament. To me that would be exciting to watch.
