Probably no advantage to using longer vanes except that if you are going to shoot IBO or ASA sanctioned shoots then you have to shoot 4" vanes or longer in the Bowhunter classes. Best to check their respective websites.
Besides equipment changes you also will need to make a serious effort to perfect your shooting form. 3"-4" groups at 30 yards isn't too bad if you are a fairly new shooter, but you should be able to cut that in half easily if you work on form and tweaking your setup. Good, repeatable form is everything in archery.
