I like Linwood early in the spring. Had good luck finding big hens out there early in the season right after ice out.
I was going to go out Sunday but had a box of beer kick my butt on saturday.

We did very good last August out of Linwood. Bad thing you have to run out 5 miles. Augres is nice its only a mile to 20 foot of water. Rougher water up there though sometimes. We only fish a 17' boat. We may go back to the little mainistee for early run salmon then as well

No faster or better way to fill a freezer than salmon.
I use to go out at grindstone after salmon but they kind of disappeared the last few year over there and all we could catch were lakers so we started after the walleye. I hear rumors that the salmon are coming back to the east side of the state. Nothin better than fighting a big salmon.

So...what's everyone doing for the 4th??
Were going to a 3d shoot saturday morning, then we're off to go camping with the kids til monday morning.
They can run and play and act like animals, while I drink large quanities of beer and tend the camp fire.

How about them " CUBS " !
They beat the Reds yesterday ,and they got a game today .As we all know it is best to pray for rain cause the Reds won the first two games of this unusual 4 game series !
Well it's pouring here in Iowa , no carp shooting for me today ,maybe fireworks underwater will work ,just kidding .

Had a great time up north. So did the 500,000 people going south on 75 yesterday! The weather was great and the beer was cold.

I was driving around checking out my stands thinking about doing some tree trimming and which ones I wanted to move. Then I realized how hot it was and my beer was getting warm so I gave up on the work and just tended to my beer.

We ended up having 5 tree stands and four sets of climbing sticks stolen this spring. Not counting the two sets a buddy had stolen over on the other end of the farm. More than likely a inside job. My buddy has a few dirt bag relatives who where banished years ago. One ws ticketed last year heavly by the DNR for tresspassing. Probably a payback. Im lag bolting all my sticks onto the trees and putting a heavy duty cable and chain on the stands. And I wont be lazy and will take them down when gun season comes. In teh really exposed area were going back to wooden ladder stnads built out of 16' 4x4's and 2x6's. Go ahead and take those jackass.

After have a couple tree stands takin I built a couple ladder stands out of 1x1 steel tube......if there man enough to carry em out of the woods then they earned them.
Ive had good luck with wood ladder stands. I got about ten years out of them. They still looked good but as I got older, I got bigger and just didn't trust them anymore. I don't bounce as well as I use to.

Yeah we got lazy in our older age. We used to go out in early December and pull all of our stands. The last couple years we have just left them all up. Easier to replace a few rachet straps in the summer than take them all down. When you have 20 stands up its alot of work taking them all down and putting them all back up. So in the high traffic areas we are going back to wood. I think Im gonna lag bolt my climbing sticks to the trees with 12 inch bolts to .
