His point is that baiting is okay for TRAPPING and FISHING. He is saying it is not okay for HUNTING. Hunting by definition requires active skill sets of pursuit. If you set up a tree standing 15 yards from bait and wait for an animal that's been photographed more than Paris Hilton...you are not hunting. Killing? Ambushing? Harvesting? Yes. Hunting? No.

I know what his point was and I'm saying its flawed as is yours.
I could use the same logic for fishing and or trapping.
Its not fishing if you use a worm and a hook its just catching. JUst throw the line out and reel them in.
Its not real trapping if you use bait. Heck you dont even have to be there to catch them.
See what I mean? To say it is okay for one sport but not the other just doesnt make sense to me.
I believe that if its legal and you want to use bait then go for it. I think its a personal choice and my choice has no bearing on your choice and yours has no bearing on mine.

Seems to me that using "bait" is still hunting, don't know about the deer that you hunt, but, you still have to place your "bait" in the right spot, or the deer won't come to it. Even with a irresistable "bait", the deer are'nt going to come to it if it is in an unsafe place for the deer. So you have to find a safe area to feed them in, one that you can hunt, and then cross your fingers in hope that a deer will come to your "bait" while you are there. If it was all that easy, we'd see a lot more bigger bucks harvested. As I've said before, just because there is "bait" in an area, it does'nt mean that you will automatically have big bucks hanging around waiting for you to feed them. Just sayin.

Opinions
Since this thread is about OPINIONS I see no point in arguing with any poor fella. If you think sitting in a blind 20 yards from a bear bait waiting for Yogi to arrive at 4:45 as he has everyday for two weeks is hunting, then go ahead and shoot your "trophy" bear and feel like you hunted. Just don't expect everyone else to agree with you. If you don't see the difference between baiting and other methods of hunting...it's because you choose not to.

Me either. I think they might be suspicious of a carrot that size anyway.

Not arguing. Just stating a point of view.
P.S. I have shot a bear over bait, and loved every second of that experience. And in the end isnt that the important part?

Glad to here it. Rest assured that I will be as well. As close to any allowed "bait" as I can be!
