Talking What maximum weight bow do you use for hunting or whatever ?

Most of bows that I brought new are 60lbs. maximum limb , use ones seem to be 70 lbs. as I'm not the first owner .

I'd never buy anything over 70lbs. , getting too old and it voids my man-card warranty anyway !

What weight limb bows do you like ?

Back in my younger days when I had something to prove I always used a 70 pound bow.

Now that I'm A LITTLE older I restrict myself to 60 pound bows.

Work smarter not harder.

Over the course of almost 40 years of bowhunting I've killed (not just shot) deer with bows ranging anything from 39# to 66#. With well placed shots the results have always been the same---complete pass throughs.

I vividly remember the first deer I ever shot. 1975 and with a 39# Jennings model I and 2013 aluminum arrows with Savora broadheads shooting about 190 fps. That arrow passed through the boiler and clanged off the rocks traveling some 35 yards beyond the deer. The deer didn't make it that far.

Later I went through that heavy draw weight craze until the shoulders gave out. Today I shoot bows set at 47# with more success than those days simply because I can handle the draw weight more accurately. Last 3 deer I shot was with 315 gr arrows traveling about 237 fps, all three being pass throughs. It's all about shot placement and shot angles.

Last year I broke my arm and they had to screw and plate it back together so I shot 60 but now that I got my strength back I cranked her back up to 70

60; those 70 # bows are tough to draw on a cold morning in a stand. At least for this 50+ year old!

Why a bow shoots best at its max weight and I know they say thats not true with todays new bows but I notice a differance to me. Just buy 50 or 60 lbs max and and shoot what you can.
