Today Was A GOOD Day... Practice #2
All I can say is….
WOW!!!!
Today was my second practice day and wait until you all see the results.. Before I get to the results some thank you’s and kudos are in order. Now mind you I state this again, this is my second time at this type of shooting so realize that this sorta puts straight in the newbie class, but either way soem really good stuff. I will be refraining from the southern drawl because I want you all to understand how thankful I am to you all and this board as today…. Was a GOOD day!!!
DJ, thank you for the recommendation about B/T releases. Although I did not use this release I did research the Back Tension technique last night amidst all of our antics. If not for your recommendation today would not have been as good as it was as it was what lead me to my next commendation. Dude, you kick arse!!!!!!!
Bowman, the link you sent me… STELLAR!!! I studied that for hours last night. It was as if I was studying for another I.T. Certification Exam to add to my 13 certifications. I analyzed every bit of the information contained in that link and even took notes. Awesome stuff, dude you totally RAWK!!! I know we razz him a lot but now I know why… It’s because he knows his S*@#T!
Holy Smokes, thank you for the info on sight alignment and sighting technique, today despite the pin the arrow was where it needed to be!!! When they say respect yer elders Smokes you have all of mine!!! Preach on brotha coz I am a true follower!!!!
Everyone else, kudos to you all because of your input and comments joining this board and being welcomed was the best thing I could have done on my new quest to take my archery out of the hobby and into a more competitive level. All of the information on this board comes from you all and that wealth of information is priceless and is what makes this board such a joy to be a part of. Chris… thanks for having the creativity and innovation to start this board and keep it as chock full o block of information.
Now.. onto the scores.. so I started off shooting the Quick Spins as I had originally planned. That all came to a screeching halt as my initial groups were sooooo tight on my warm-ups that I ended up ripping off a vane. Well that just had me totally miffed coz with only 3 arrows now down to 2 and seeing how delicate these vanes were I lost interest really fast. I mean I like to think that I make a good living but I don’t have hoards of money to spend on busted vanes because my groups are so tight. So, I took some time re-adjusted my sight and moved over to the Blazers (See my Blazers vs Quick Spins thread in the General Forum for more info).
Okay, so.. once that sight was on… STAND BACK is all I have to say. Not only were my groups tighter but they were SPOT ON!!!!! All I could say was WOW… After I would shoot an end I just sat there in total amazement, mouth wide open. I would be lying if I were to attribute this to just the arrows that was only one-third of the equation.
The second third was my application of the Back Tension technique. On a standard caliper release the proper application of this technique made the element of that “surprise release” real and that arrow just stuck to where it was supposed to go. What a difference I can’t wait to see what it does when I move over to a B/T release. I am debating between Carter and TruBall and of course I will welcome any input.
The final third of my equation was letting go of the sight pin. Concentrating on where I wanted the arrow to go. All of this made for the following scores:
50 50 50 46 44 44=284/300
My biggest issue today was fatigue. This was a major contributor to the lower scores on the fourth, fifth and sixth end. Arm shake due to muscle strain was kicking my arse making for it harder for me to get good sight picture still, with much effort and persistence I was still able to at least get some 10’s in at the end and at least keep my groups within the 8 ring. I am just gonna have to keep shooting and I will get over the fatigue as my muscles adjust.
All, I am totally amazed. Thank you all as if it weren’t for the wealth of advice and information from you all I would not have had such a good day. All kidding aside, THANK YOU!!!! My arrows seemed to just go where I wanted them to go today. They smoked and stuck, it was amazing. I don’t know if it was the Blazers, the B/T technique or sight technique or just the right combination of it all. Either way it would not have been possible without y’alls awesome information. Thanks again.. I am stoked about our league.
Ohh and hey… Watch out folks.. I see 300’s looming in my future. That being said, remember all, I like my pine sanded and laquered (no splinters), and my coffee with 3 Creamers and 2 Sugars, my doughnut of choice is Dunkin Doughnuts Blueberry Cake. Ooh.. and a slice of Wheel’s Apple Cobbler… All served on a silver platter with Bowman in a cute French Maid outfit with fishnets and 4inch stilettos!
Now you all know... amidst all the mushy mushy stuff I couldnt resist that opportunity!!!
Laters,
~Byte~

o.k. so are you saying you learned something or are you not sure???
I wish I could take the credit for all the BT info but I cant.....I am happy that I took the time to help you find it though.......because helping other archers is what this sport is all about....

You guys have no idea!!!!
I am still stoked over that.
You should have seen me at the shoot yesterday. When I say that I stood back with my mouth open I mean WIDE OPEN!!!! Like rolls of slob rollin down the side of mouth. My 6 year old looked at me like "Daddy, you ok? You need some water or something?" She was my score keeper.
I hope that my 3rd Practice is as good if not better. Then I will really have that nicely sanded pine bench with no splinters. I might even consider a matching pine foot rest so I can kick back on the pine with y'all. Of course eating that Blueberry doughnut and lovin the apple cobbler that SOMEONE is supposed to be makin'.
Seriously, thanks guys y'all are some awesome folk. I would love one day for us all to get together in a live shoot and have a grand ole time.
I gotta get back to work.. Need to break someones network so they can pay me to go and fix it Yeah Baby! Thats what I am talking about.
Laters,

I'm waiting to see how Bowman is going to set the format to determin who is going to sit and who's going to win .. week by week? Pairing format w/ handicap?

A Sight For Sore Eyes...
But you all have to admit that would be funny!
You know I have to live up to the "fruit" that Bowman has labeled me as in his signature. But mostly, I just aint right!
