fixed pins vs. movable pin sight

Let me ask this simple question. why is a fixed pin more forgiving when it comes to judging yardage than a movable pin?

this is what i have found out this year when i moved back to the open class. ok, lets say i am using a movable pin and im at a 3d shoot at a target thats 43 yds and i judge it for 40 yds, then i shoot and its a low 10 or possibly even a 8

. ok now, lets say im using my spott hogg fixed pin sight and i come to this same 43 yard target and my pins are set 20,30,40,50,and 60 yds and i use my 40yd pin. 9 times out of 10 if i use the 40 yard pin it will still be there.

NOW WHY IS THAT?

Probably your subconscious taking over a bit in your aiming.

I've noticed the same thing Wilco,I just put it down to what I feel good with when shooting??? You like myself have more than likely put 1000's of shots through your bows with the spot hogg and know the feel and balance with that sight???All I know is if it works keep using it ,A 10's a 10 isn't it

i guess, i shot a lot of them today.(12's that is) if you dont believe me just ask bowman90

lets put it to you this way, the first 15 targets i only had three 8's and the last 15 targets i only had one 8, the rest of the targets was 10's and 12's so i guess you could say it this way, other than the four 8's i shot, i had 26 out of the 30 targets was either a 10 or a 12. my final score was a 320.

Hey Westy, How far do you extend the bar on your open sight? Does it stick out farther than your fixed pin sight. If so, that would explain it. If they are even then I have know clue. The farther your pin is from the riser the more spot on you have to be with your yardage.

i dont know westy, it has been to three 3d shoots and the lowest score it has seen was a 320 i shot another 320 with it the first weekend i got it. and i shot indoors this past saturday evening and shot a 336 my all time high score. it could be the PSE.

thanks my friend i had 3 of the 8's on the first half and the other one about target 26. i guess it was just my day to shine

I shoot like some play golf,I set a par and the if I do better it's a Bonus

yeah thats my goal at every shoot if i shoot a 300 then anything over that is a bonus. but here lately i am wanting to keep my scores to 310 and above. that way i am pushing myself to do better.
