practice time

How many times do you guys and ladies practice a week and what do you practice on and how long? for myself, i usually practice about twice a week on my form by shooting the bag target 3 arrows at ranges from 20,30,40,and 50yds then i will shoot the odd yardages 25,35,45. then do a quick walk around the back yard judging yardages. lets hear some other ways you practice for the weekends.

Well, let's see.... In the summer, I usually practice 4-5 times a week (I REALLY like shooting outdoors). On those days I try to shoot from 20-80 yards with the emphasis on the 40-65 yard range. If I need to really hunker down and work on a nagging issue, I spend some "quality time" on the 10 yarder. I also try to get in 1 or 2 half field rounds and usually shoot a full 28 on Sunday in a competition. When I'm not shooting a field half, I usually spend about 2-2 1/2 hours at the range per day--don't know or care how many arrows I shoot per day.

Sheesh, at this rate, I should have been good enough to go pro by now....

I practice 3-5 times a week mostly on bag targets at 20 - 40 yds. Other times I use a bag target at unknown distances and vary the angle. My home set up is one bag target in a frame that sits so I can shoot dark to light and dark to dark, if I'm using my home setup in the mornings I can shoot light to light but by 10 am I have shadows to play with.

ok what situation is the hardest to judge yardage? for myself, its anything that causes the (tunnell effect) such as shooting down a very narrow lane to the target. it just looks farther to me.

Had that this weekend. Small animal, down a narrow passage, my buddy and I thought it was 7-10yards further than it actually was!

yep me too. i skipped my full bore off a grazing bears back.

it was a 35 yd shot and i shot it for 40yds.

Shots over water or shot across hills.

I use to practise everyday for a hour or so but I burned myself out. I decided to take this summer off and see where it leaves me come next indoor season.

thats probably what i need to do but i love doing it too much.

How about a tunnel shot over a creek with raised banks (stake just below the bank on one side, short tunnel to the creek, then target half concealed by the bank on the other side and back aways from it). Yeah, that pretty much describes Sunday's shoot.

I practice almost every that weather permits. Since most of my shooting is outdoors in a public park, it probably averages 5 days a week.

A typical session will be 60 to 100 arrows, but I reduce that the day before competion to 20 to 30 arrows. I start with blank bale, and then go to whatever distance current competition requires. In fall & winter, it's 20 yards. In spring & summer, it's out to 90 m.

It ain't working out too well so far, but I figure if I keep it up, I'll somehow get better.

I have to agree, clean missed three like that in the weekend shoot. I find that my troubles begin when the stake is in the deep shadows too.

yeah and its harder for us old guys to be able to see very well. but im doing the best i can

Embarrassed to admit it but I've shot only once since last fall. Have'nt shot a 3d in a long time. Sometimes life makes you take an unexpected turn. I hope to get back after it sometime this summer. Aim small brothers.
