Default Colorado elk hunt

I'm going on my first elk hunt and I need some tips. Going for the opening of archery the last week of August and first week of September. Any advice welcomed. Thanks

Build up your stamina; get in as good a shape as you can.

As stated before build your stamina. Also, what alot of people don't do is get here a little early and acclimate yourself. Nothing ruin's a hunt faster than a case of altitude sickness. Good luck, with all the fire's burning here there may not be much left to hunt

If your aa flat lander like myself it's going to take some time to ajust to the Altitude once thats squared away then comes the bitter cold of those Rockies, after that you then got to find the game and then do the bussiness!!!!!Great place to hunt though Good Luck and God Speed Bro!!!!

Pretty much what everyone else said. Get in as good of shape as you possibly can, it's funny how a pair of boots that you can walk miles in at 5,000 ft can feel like lead weights at 8-10k feet. It will be hard, even if you had a week before to do it, to get acclimated to the elevation. One thing that will help is to keep yourself hydrated. Avoid caffinated drinks and alcohol or be prepared for the headaches that will come.

Elk are big animals and at that time of year, it's going to be hot enough to ruin meat if they're not cared for properly and quickly. Take some game bags to help protect from flies too.
