11 Year old LOVES archery! Now what????
Greeting to all!
New to the forum and could use some help. My 11 year old son picked up a bow for the first time on Monday at a range up in Minnesota and absolutely loved it! The instructor at the range was impressed by how well he shot for his first time and how it seemed to come natural to him. It is all he thinks about now.
My question is, NOW WHAT DO I DO?
We live in the Aurora/Naperville western suburbs of Chicago. My son wants nothing more than for me to purchase equipment for him but its not like he can just go outside and shoot at a target in front of the garage.
My son is not the most social kid and has never had much interest (or performed well) in team sports so I really want to take advantage of this interest as I know the long term affect it can have on him.
I am truly desperate and any help the community could offer would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks ahead of time!

Look for a archery club and sign up. Most have regular shoots, programs and all sorts of things to do archery related.
One of my kids started shooting at 12 and my other one started shooting at 6.
Archery has been great way to spend time with my kids.

Notice on the giraffe, one is standing in the back ground searching for her arrow.
All's fair in love and 3d shoots

Besides signing up at your local archery club..........
You can install a safe range in your basement fairly cheaply. Just put in a safe back stop and have strick rules on safety. Your range doesn't have to be 20 yards, even a 10 yard range is good practise when you can't make it to the club.
Winter time indoor target shoots are also a lot of fun and can turn into good quality kid time so don't put the bows away when the snow starts blowing, just change venues.

Not to be a creep or anything, but I live in the Schaumburg area, and I'm still relatively a novice, but I've been scrounging around and trying to find people who might want to be a part of a casual archery group that I'm trying to build. I live on a 1/2 Acre, so I have plenty of space for my own practice, and several other people as well. In addition, there's plenty of forest preserve areas that have expansive areas as well for practice. Maybe if you're interested, and if I can gather a few other people, we can have a meetup? I live too far to drive to ranges easily - the closest one to me is either Carol Stream or West Dundee. :/
