Which is faster 60# maxed or 70# turned down, results!
The question was brought up about which bow would perform better or would there be any difference in speeds between them. So we set out to find out the truth. Today I tested 2 Mathews Switchback XTs. Here are the specs...
Test Bow #1
70# peak weight, set at 60.21 pounds
29" draw length
Specialty Super ball peep installed
String loop installed
Axle-to-Axle as tested 31"
Brace height as tested 7-9/16"
Whisker Biscuit rest
Test Bow #2
60# peak weight, set at 60.05 pounds
29" draw length
Specialty Super ball peep installed
String loop installed
Axle-to-Axle as tested 30-15/16"
Brace Height as tested 7.5"
Whisker Biscuit rest
The arrow used was an Axis 400 with blazer vanes that weighed 400 grains.
We took multiple shots with bow bows to get an average and the results are as follows.
Bow #1, 70# set at 60# shot 257fps
Bow #2, 60# set at 60# shot 260fps.
So there you have it, there is a 3 fps difference in the two bows. The peaked bow was faster. The 60# was actually turned down slightly because with the limbs bottomed out it was just over 62 pounds.

Good Show
Thanks alot Chris that answers my question on speed but how about consistant shooting of same bow both maxed out and turned down. By the way Chris I loved that choice of arrow rest there. How about that Bowman a SB XT w/WB. Gotta love it

It's not necessarily how much you pull-it's how the energy is released

I thought you would love the whisker biscuit.
Assuming the turned down bow doesn't shoot as well as the maxed one, I don't think the average shooter could see any difference in the two bows.
I can't confirm or deny that the maxed out bow shoots better. I have been shooting the turned down bow at 62#. This is my demo bow. It's your average hunting setup and it shoots extremely well. If a maxed out bow shoots better than this one, I would like to see that. I put down the Apex7 one night and picked this bow up. For grins, I shot a 300 round with it. Shot 299 out of 300 with an index trigger release, giant hunting peep and .029 pins, not bad. The one miss was totally my fault.
Maybe I should put a Sure-loc Scope on that XT and see what it can really do!

Thanks Chris
I Think that Sure-loc would look good on the XT. Maybe you should pull out a BT release setup that scope and see what happens.

I bet if you removed the friction biscuit it would help out considerably. But thats just my opinion to me thats kinda like putting spining wheels on a rusty ol pinto it just dont belong. But you know what they say about opinions

Spinners on a pinto??? That is hillarios . Did you ever notice that no matter how nice a car may look , if it has a flat tire, it looks like a piece of dookie. Kinda like putting a whisker biscuit on a XT Was shooting today and once again my Copper John Scardey Cat performed flawlessly. The same cant be said for the new guy in our group shooting his whisker bizquit, He has not learned about blazers yet. Came w/8 arrows left w/one that did not have a wrinkled fletch. Still better than the guy w/ the Muzzy Zero Effect. The arm that raises the arrow rest up. Came apart about 2/3 of the way thru the shoot. Almost thru his Switchback thru the woods, course me never being one to let a guys GOOD fortune go unnoticed, asked him if he wanted me to run home and get him my spare CJ rest, That went over like a ton of bricks. All in all had a good morning in the rain. Had to remove my lens (rain) and still managed to shoot a 280 out of 300. Just missed the really nice first place trophy ( beded buck on a nice plaque) by one point. Did have a pretty interesting bonus, Had a tomahawk throw set up. From about 10 feet was really cool.
Shoot those bows w/a different rast and see how they do please.

When I got my bow the guy tried to get me to put a WB on it and I told him if he tried it again I would go somewhere else. I just dont trust them I got the micro drop-away from Mathews for mine set it up shot it once through the paper tweeked it just a lil bit next 3 shots were perfect. This is my first experience with a drop away and I was a little leary of it but after shooting it nothing else compares.
