What bow to buy?

Hi

A friend's birthday is coming up and I thought of getting him a bow for recreational purposes. I'm not sure what type of bow to buy though. I went over to amazon and was browsing through their archery stuff but there were way too many options and not enough reviews for the products. I got confused and didn't know what would be the right type of bow to buy for a 22 yr old marine. Anyway I thought you folks could help me out. I'm looking to spend less than $100 because this is a gift for recreational purposes only, and he doesn't know that he's getting it. So what type of bows would you folks recommend? Thanks for any of your help folks.

100.00 is not going to get much these days even for rec use.... maybe a gift card to an archery shop would be a good idea.... not trying to say dont get a bow but once someone starts shooting they get hooked and then a 100 bow is not going to do much for them.... you can get nice bow packages (ready to shoot) for around 300.... maybe get a few other friends to go in with you.... again i am not trying to be discouraging

Welcome to the forum...
I don't know what you'll find on that budget...but a gift card is probably a good suggestion...If you go with a compound bow, he will need to be measured for his Draw Length...and he really should shoot a few different bows to see which one feels best to him...comfort is important.

Now on the other hand a recurve can be had for less that $150-200...and he doesn't need to be measured as it is not DL specific...and they are alot of fun...
You still need to consider arrows and some accessories...$$$

i have 2 recurves that are much more than my compounds..... i assume you are talking about a inexpensive recurve for recreation only .... where would one find a recurve for a 100.00 ..... just asking because we dont have many places that sell equipment in houston except bow shops and they dont carry recurves much

Oh absolutely, they can get real expensive...
if you know what your looking at Ebay is pretty good...But FS discount has a good price on recurves, Pse makes a couple nice entry level bows like the Buckeye and the Impala
