Headlamp/Flashlight Use?
How big of a deal is it to use a headlamp or flashlight to enter or exit the woods in the dark when moving to or from a stand? Will it spook the deer or do they care? Thanks

It shouldn't hurt anything if you use a small low power flashlight and keep it pointed at the ground right in front of you. Don't wave it around.

The most important part of carrying a flaslight is ya never really know if there is someone else in the woods you are hunting. It could save your life.. do not walk into or out of a woods without a flashlight on in the dark and I can tell you this from my own personal experience.......

I've heard a red lamp won't spook most game, but that could be a bunch of crap....I've never tried it.

I use a headlamp climbing and setting in, and usually walking in too, if I am in thick stuff and don't know the exact way to where I am going..
I got a 8 AA scuba light wth krypton, for tracking blood and other uses. Super bright. Love it. I don't like LED's at all. The Bluish tint sucks for blood.
I thing the deer are more spooked by me being there at all, and seldom run or spook unless I walk right up on them. They actually seem kinda curious about a headlamp, and watch it without freaking, usually.
After sitting in a tree 15 minutes, everything settles down, and deer that were too far away to notice you in the first place are walking under the stand.

yep that's why I posted what I did in this thread. My buddy and I about 15 years ago were walkin down the edge of a corn field it was just starting to turn daylight. We had gotten up late and was bustin to get in our stands. I just caught something outta the corner of my eye a car had stopped in the road and the fellar was layin across the hood of his car with a high powered rifle putting a bead right in the middle of my buddies back. I hollered at the guy when I seen what he was doin and he took outta there pretty quick. It was to dark to make us out and we had no flashlights he mistook us for deer walkin down the edge of a field. The good Lord was watching out for us that day or I might not have turned around to see that guy.

During archery season(rifle season is different..i have it on any time it's dark..to many people shoot at things they hear but can't see) when 1/2 the distance to my stand is down an old logging/skid road i try not to use my flash lite but the other 1/2 i have to use it if i want to keep the noise down.I keep a good one in my back pack but just use a small one(kind that uses 2 AA batt's) for walking to my stand.
