back tension questions

I am looking to get a back tension hand release I have shot the black hole from Scott and when I turn my hand against my face and started pulling it wouldn't go off. So is this a common thing with tension releases where you can't turn your hand or just that model from Scott ? Thanks

I have not shot the black hole style, from looking at a photo I seen on Lancaster's of it I see it has a half moon style hinge that allows the hook to stay in place while drawing this style of release that is the same concept as my TRU-BALL BT brass release, now with out seeing you perform this attempt of shooting with this thing I can only guess as to a couple of things that may have caused this release not to execute the result you was looking for.
1. The moon might have be set heavy with it causing the hook piece to have to travel a lot before clearing the the device to release the string.
2. You being your first time using this style of release may have be so tense that you thought you where moving your hand a lot when maybe you wasn't and the travel needed to clear the hook from off the hinge wasn't happening.
For a right handed person on the setting the half moon hinge goes counter clock wise to make it heavy to go off and clock wise to make it what we call hot, mean less travel for the thing to firer.
I would stand about ten feet from the bale and load up an arrow and hook up the release than when at full draw relax your hand to where you feel all of your fingers holding the tension of the draw than aim and start pulling your ring finger tighter to your palm as you pull back on the shoot so that your hand moves from say 12 noon to 1 pm on a clock motion and it should fire the shot off. Again I'm only thinking about what I vision should happen, I am not there to see you do what ever it is your trying to get this to work. GOOD LUCK and I hope you figure it out.

Thanks Hawkins I've shot the true ball with a safety a it worked but I would like to find one without the safety. But I have noticed a lot of shooter shoot with they're hand not turned they shoot wit they're hand at about a 45 degree angle I shoot with my hand at 90 degrees that's when I couldn't get the release to go off

Yes I agree to the 45 degrees more so when I am using my BT Brass release. Now Dave Cousin uses his thumb button release in a more aggressiveness of a 90 degrees and does really well at it. Anyhow here is a link that has all the top shooters and what I like to see is the form they all seem to use with their bow hand on the bow. This is the style of release I shoot spots with. It doesn't have a safety, just keep all the pressure on the thumb and fore finger side when drawing is only safety I know it has?

As a person that is also new to back tension releases... I just bought the STAN SX2.... Give it a try very nice to use and easy to adjust.

Has anybody tried the evolution+ by Carter? I have read a lot about it and have seen nothing bad about it. Was kinda leaning that away

I highly recommend the TRU Ball back tension releases. I currently shoot the Sweet Spot II and love it! I learned on the original Sweet Spot and just upgraded. They also have the BT Gold, which is one of their staple back tensions as well. I see a lot of the HT and HT Pro back tensions when I go to tournaments as well. Their new, Inside Out X, is a great one that allows you to adjust the angle of the head so that when you anchor you can have the head square with the string. Check 'em out.
