Whacked a little one tonight
Little doe walked in around 4:10 this evening. I let her mill around for about 20 minutes, I was hoping some horns would be with her. The wind picked up and she started to head back to the bedding ground so I put the 30 yard pin on her and let her have it. The entrance was good and the exit took out the next to last rib I didn't think she was quarting that much when I released, all in all, 30 yard track and a deer in the truck. Backstraps are cooking now.

I should have taken a pic of the entrance, but instead it's the exit. Like I said the exit was farther back then I wanted it to be, but the entrance was right behind her shoulder, hit the front/middle of one lung and the back of her other lung. Lost my lumenok, and one arrow on that doe, found the broken shaft sticking out of a tree on the other side of where she was standing. The Tekan broadhead seemed to hold up pretty well. One of the blades slit the ole food sack on the way through, so there was some gritty stuff in the upper chest cavity. That feels nice when it gets under your fingernails Oh well, 30 yard track and backstraps on the table. First time ever cooking fresh backstraps, they were some of the better ones I have ever had. Lazy way, cooked them on the George Foreman.

Werent the straps and surrounding meat ruined from the stomach being perforated? Or was it not a big spill of stomach contents?

Stomach contents don't spoil the meat if gutted and washed promptly. Seen many gutshot deer that were just fine on the grill or sausage.

I've never found it to be a problem if it's cool enough. It' swhen they lay in the sun for a while that gets them a little stinky.

Congrats, but I hate you. I don't get to deer hunt for another 3 weeks! Oh well, limited waterfowl species are open on monday, hopefully that will get me through. Never hit a fast flying bird( I did get one landing last year, though)
