Looking to get alot better and need advice

I recently bought a new hoyt bow and it shoots sweet. I have never shot in a real tourney, just some stuff for fun. I think I now have the tools to start competition, but am struggling to find someone that can teach me. I shoot every day, but I don't want to practice poor form. The pro shop I go to seems too busy to help and there aren't any other places to go. I live in central Iowa and am looking for a good shooter that knows what he/she is talking about that would be willing to teach someone that is new to tournament shooting. Anybody have any help? Anything would be greatly appreciated. -Needing help in ames

Welcome!!!!Have someone take a pic side on of you at full draw and post it here, maybe we can help you w/your form if you dont find someone. Contrary to some peoples beliefs we are just trying to help each other. Which hoyt did you get? Does not really matter. Only ask, cuz I shot the trykon last week and if I cant get my hands on an apex 7 i may have to get one for 3-d's, after all you cant have too many bows right?

The most important thing for you to work on right now is good solid form, study pictures of pros and pick out the elements that make up winning form, also there are a number of instructional videos that can help you. As far as shooting in tourneys....just go for it, whats the worst that can happen? I found that when I was in a tournament situation up against way better shooters I always managed to shoot alot better than if I was shooting alone or with people I could beat. Find out who the best shooters are out of that pro shop and talk to them, if the place has a range shoot against better shooters and ask for advice, if they dont want to help you than just study their form and compare it to your's, also make sure your equip. is properly set up, or even the best form will not help. Tim if you can find a copy of CORE ARCHERY by Larry Wise it may help you it is all about form and back tension. Other than that you will need to have someone evaluate your form like others have said. Good luck and have a great time here.
