Default I'm tired of the archery rat race

It seems like all I do is look for the next best great thing in archery. whether it's the new model of bow or a new release, broadhead, etc. that's gonna make me a great shooter or hunter.......
I've bought 3 bows and probably a half dozen rests and sights to try in the last year, and to be honest, none of them have really got me excited or made me want to shoot every day. It seems like it's all about the equipment, and keeping up with the Jones.

So I'm going old school.........

Tomorrow, I'm going to buy a new string and a dozen arrows for my old Bear Kodiak takedown recurve, and I'm going to devote one full year to shooting it without picking up anything modern with training wheels, or fiber optics, or a dropaway rest, etc.

Wish me luck, I'm gonna need it.........

p.s. if you want to flame me or make fun of me, go ahead, I can take it.......

Good for you J.C. .

I see months of misery in the coming year .

Not being able to group well would drive me crazy!

Good luck though.

yep, it's going to be a challenge. I think I'll lean my bag target against the dishwasher, and shoot from the living room to start. That's all of 8 yds........

Good luck to ya.

I think you will have a lot more fun.

I myself am getting out of the archery rat race also. But I'll be going back to rifles and pistols.

Talk about holding resale value.

I do that to.
Last year i got back into 3D and triditional 3D after a 10year lay-off
Some times ya get burned out on the stuff.
Good thing is my club has triadional shoots on sat. and all others on sunday
So i break it up to keep it fun.
ive been shooting bows since i was 16 and im 47 now you think i dont get tired of it.
I do alot but you gotta find a break in the action, fishin, golf or something else
To much of 1 sport can get old really quick.

Good luck with the traditional. All I can think about is the next time the weather is fit to get in a good practice. We had a few mornings of -30. No way I'm gonna bother, until it warms up to at least +20.

Just read your post.. and I wanted to say I think thats an awesome idea. I personally have never shot anything but a compound (just started about two years ago) But here recently I have been taking to my friends about going old school. I would love to learn to shoot a recurve and get back to the basics of archery, the core of where the sport was born from.. They say simplicity is bliss.. I can definately see that being applied to archery. Maybe by next summer I will be able to find myself a good recurve so I can try it out.
Keep us posted and let us how you're shootin.

good luck

J.C.you will probably enjoy it. I shot 2 tournaments of tradition last year and it was a lot of fun. no pressure because I knew I was going to suck. and I did. ever one was just about as bad as me. but I think I won in the bad mouthing part
