Yes, which is specifically why I said Mission when I gave one non-bashing reason why to buy a Mission over a Martin. And as far as Mission not having good resale value, a quick search of AT's classifieds and e-bay's completed sales and it looks like they hold their value pretty well to me.
I don't buy my bows based on resale either, but if I were buying one for a growing child who will outgrow it in a year or for someone who may be on the fence about becoming an archery, it might be a factor.
It's also kind of funny that you call people out for being Mathews Nazis when you are just as rabid trying to put down the brand as those who support it. Hello kettle, my name is pot.

Chill out Potsi. Mathews makes a great bow. But comparing the Mission to a Mathews is like comparing a Ford Focus to a F-350. Made by the same companys, but big difference. Different strokes for different strokers as they say.
Best NEW bow for under $400, I am quite confident is a ******

I didn't realize Mission made a youth bow. And if you don't buy for resale, why state that as a reason to buy?
The people I called out are Mathews shooters. They don't shoot Mission bows. They recommended it because it is attached to Mathews and not any other reason (except J.C. he had a legitimate reason). Why don't you do a little reasearch into my past thousand or so posts and you'll see I'm not a basher. I've been friends with these guys for several years and they know where I'm coming from and how serious I am.
So...take a breath, relax, and don't take it personal.

With the MOAB and Bengal as close as they are in price I don't see how the Bengal sells at all. The Bengal feels like a brick if you hold the 2 side by side. Guess it's because not all the dealers are pro dealerships.

Mission
The other day i shot a mission and at first i did not like it. I went into the archery shop set on buying a Diamond The Rock. After awile of shooting i was about to put the mission back on the shelf until the archery shop owner told me to put a s-coil on it and try again. I did and then i liked it. It shot nice. I now was in a predicament because i was shooting The Rock, Lights out by fred bear, and mathews mission x3, all under $400. That was the crazy thing that i saw in the mission bow. The IBO was 310 and the actual was 302fps. That was very little loss of speed compared to the Rocks (315 IBO and 270 actual speed0 and the Bear (302-306 IBO and 250 actual) IBO speed and actual speed. The Bear lost about 18% speed between the IBO and actual, the Rock lost about 13% speed between IBO and actual and the Mission lost only 2.7% of its speed between the IBO and the actual speeds. I think that is spectactular. That is incredable speed. I think this is one reason to look at the mathews mission, i am buying one tomarrow.

Guys, be wise about the fact that we like this sport. We need to be ambassadors for it and support it and take a lot of the nonsense based emotion out of it. Of course, doing all that without having fun is a balancing act but we need to just try and help people get into the sport and STAY in the sport...

Well said, Ron. I recently found out that the state authorities are considering outlawing bows. Makes me miss the freedom of the USA. Never let them take it away!
Hrm...I'm thinking it's time to start checking the job market back stateside.
Anyone looking for a slightly used business analyst with a strong background in mechanical aircraft engineering?

I know I'm going to regret chiming in here, but there are a few TECHNICAL reasons that a one piece riser would be a bit better...and potentially stronger (given a few assumptions) than a multi-piece riser...purely from an engineering perspective.
Reasons include: - Tolerance stack up: The more components and pieces in ANY machine, the less tolerance control...because NOTHING has a +/- 0.000000000000" tolerance. The lower the tolerance, the higher the cost to produce.
- Joint strength: assuming the joint is not created using molecular adhesive (i.e. full surface to surface adhesion at a molecular level) then the stress concentrates somewhere via the critical load path. If that load path ends on a faster....that's typically not a problem because even a fairly weak steel screw is stronger than very strong Al. That said, the INSERTS or the threads become a weak point. It can be engineered such that it won't wait...aircraft designers do it every day, but it's one other consideration that is easily flubbed in ways that either reduce tolerances or factors of safety.
- Fatigue strength: Those threads I talked about above are subject, more than a large annealed homogenous lump of metal, to fatigue failure. The threads must be hard, tough, high tolerance, and tolerant of repeated vibration. That combination is nasty for threaded fasteners from a fatigue level. I'd guess, however, that the bows are designed with a high factor of safety and a fatigue life cycle well beyond what any non-robotic archer would fire in a lifetime.
- Vibration propogration and reflection: As sound waves (vibration) propogates through a homogenous material any boundary...especially a sharp cornered boundary will tend to propogate and reflect the vibration. While is MAY result in amplification of audible frequency sound, it's the frequencies that contribute to fatigue failure that are most concerning. Once again, however, most consumer items are designed with anywhere from 150% to 500% factor of safety built in. I would expect, however, with two identical bows...one with a single piece riser and the other with the same riser chopped into pieces them recombined...the recombined riser would have a higher level of vibration propogation. FYI: smooth corners reduce this impact and some might even suggest that a solid piece acts more like a tuning fork. Without running a bunch numbers that I probably couldn't remember how to run anyway...suffice it to say the boundary and corner reflected sound wave propogation is greater than that in an untuned solid material (i.e. a bow isn't tuned to produce a C# when plucked).
From a PRACTICAL perspective, however, the above items may not even even noticable....and are most likely not noticable without special equipment (and for reasons I stated above). The PRACTICAL reasons FOR a multi-piece risers are, among others, those already mentioned. - Reduced waste
- Less machining
- Better thermal control (reduces growth of dendrites...which cause the metal to become brittle when heated and cooled irregularly)
- Faster heat treatment processing if they choose to adjust material properties after the bow is machined.
I'm sure I could think of other stuff on both sides of the argument...but this quick chime is becoming a novel. Sorry for the LONG post.
