Isn't anyone planning on bow hunting this year? I'm not to worried about CWD aspect, I have taken many deer even from the CWD hot zone and even a 4+ year old doe didn't test positive. My concern is the lazy DNR creating this call in system to record deer. Now people will use there same set of tags all year long instead of buying more and call in Bucks as Does to avoid the 2 buck max. This could really jeopardize the deer herd if people don't practice quality deer management.
The only check stations that will be available would be for for testing perhaps?,where I do not know?
I know that when I take my deer to be processed they can have it checked there if I want to.
I am sure that all the deer in my property does not have it,and told them that from the getgo.
They came out to do there survey the year before last to see if they could find CWD here.
They also said they only shot 5 or 6 deer, the owner got a letter from the DNR saying that there final result was 15 deer killed and tested.no cwd.
This really has no signifigance to us on saving any money on deer tags or license or even a place to hunt, lease,or check in my deer really.
I do however wonder why this is such a big deal to go about saving money for the dnr.
Will this make it so that they can roam around during archery season and check people in there property for tags or licenses more often?
What are they gonna do with all this spare time?Build a park?
I think that they should really consider opening up the parks for archery season for a fee if they want to make even some more money, and who don't?
Instead of trying to save it by leaving it wide open to having deer not being checked in,after all, there are more deer in the parks than anywhere I know of to hunt.
A signifigance of management for all wildlife species is never considered ere in winn.,I know the deer are so thick in some parks due to all the subdivisions going up that they deer don't have much a choice of where to go.The winn. board made them decisions for development without any consideration for anything but more money for property taxes.
Who on the board said you can't hunt in city limits?pretty soon all of it will be city limits.
A decision that soley is made by the board to say the least of what does get built or located for development.they don't ask the DNR if the building a 3 lane highway and 7 subdivisions on a certain 500 acre wooded area would affect a deer or turkey population or even a bug population...They want walmart shopping close to home.
Then the Dnr can relocate hundreds of turkeys all over the place due to numbers being so high in the parks?,why is it any different with deer management is the question.
I seldom think that the broad picture of what does save the dnr money doesn't...
This is really funny, how come every county around us,or next to us seems to think of ways of making deer or wildlife managemnt or even hunting better except Winn.county.I think of what the county does for the DNR is avoid them as much as possible.
They obviously don't need checkstations....
It is the facts that this is about making money, not saving it,and as for who gets the money?.... is the question? If ya ask me,of course anyone who is making the money off development would see or understand no signifigance in this matter and would tend to dissagree or vote against hunting or managing it for wildlife, because it is not a matter of wildlife management, but how to make even more money.
The state made the decisions to remove all checkstations for deer this year perhaps due to what, insufficeint funding?
Why not, there too busy making parks and wildlife management areas around here for sure.
Checkstations are like wildlife management areas, who needs em'
BLAH BLAH BLAH
I thought that's what the lack of information was pointing to on the DNR sight. Wonder if it has something to do with Blagojevich tightening up the $$ for the DNR. This state pisses me off more every year as far as hunting and fishing goes. Many of us already go to the Illinios State Park (WISCONSIN) to fish and ATV, WHEN I have to do it to hunt I will move across the border. Maybe they are saving money to buy up the remainer of the river bottoms & wetlands to prevent us from hunting at all. CWD doesn't bother me much but what kind of message is sent by ignoring it? Perhaps they need to save enough money to provide a successful poaching season this year for the Forest Preserve's and DNR? I do feel for them though they need more ATV's, Rifles, Scopes,Spot lights, and Bait Piles. However make sure you as a citizen don't use any of the above, be an ethical hunter, and don't worry about the CWD.
You had to take your deer into a checkstation, register them there,no questions.
I would say all you got to do to get a poached deer is make it home.
Now that you don't do that the only 2 people who will ever even know you got a deer are your processor or your taxidermist.
How will this work?
You call the Dnr at there hours to recieve a number they give you?
If I shoot a deer and can't get it into a processor because they are not open I am going to be so steamed.
Anyone got the lowdown on how this is gonna happen?
I am still waiting for tags to come into the shop.
If you read through all of the jiberish on the DNR website they donít mention a damn thing about archery hunting in the counties known to have CWD in the population. So we have to ASSUME that we do it like the folks that actually have instructions. Shoot a deer, tag it, gut it, drag it, but donít cut the head or the peter off of it it up until you have called the phone number of the powers above (whatever the number is, youíll have to look on the site for an hour to find it), perhaps it will be on the tags. Then tell them whatever the hell you want. My first deer will be a 450lb doe. After you call in they will give you a number for the 450 pounder, to remain with the deer. Remember to be honest though because the 2 buck limit, I assume, is still in place. However immidiately after you call for your magic number you may get rid of all of the remains. Basically the DNR is saving OUR money that was used for checkstations to keep people honest, for other things, like buying up land to be used for other special interest groups. This land will be labeled CONSERVATION or FOREST PRESERVE to be used by anyone but the people who paid for it, the hunters.
I do however beleive that us hunters who have seen all this going on,know exactly what you mean.
I would say I almost feel as if it is as a 50-50 situation on the dnr's excepting the bills and lws that get passed, kinda like getting involved gets you nowhere if ya do try to anything or say what is better for this area a needle in a haystack.
I do not however think that this county has a clue about how wildlife management should be accounted for.
It is a law that if you develop a swamp that you have to take that amount of acreage and conserve it,what is funny is why.
Did you read the star article on the frogs?
We care more about frogs and mosquitos and swampland than our deer and wooded/habitat to me.
I love to get the inside scoop on muskie fishing, and love to fish for them as well.
I have seen the dnr stock and manage muskies in our lakes here in IL without saying 5 year from now this state with what they have done and will break the numbers/of records 10 fold wth trophy class waters avaiable to catch them in,spectular by all means.
I also feel that putting fish/habitat in a lake and forage as well is and has been done considerably well right here in this county,a great job bein done.
How come when it comes to to whitetails/a truly native specimen,it is a different story?
After all a muskie don't jump out of the water in front of the boat and kill or injure hundreds of people every year? They just don't.
The only reason why there are so many deaths and accidents on our highways is speeding #1 alcohol#2.
I would like to see what the poll says in the start of nov-through dec,and see where deer at fault as bad as other places in the world.
Not to say that this has a signifigance, but? . The Dnr are trying as hard as they can to eliminate the populated areas where deer are.
If they had more habitat created/or accounted for them,we would have a dramatic difference in that alone,It won't be significant until someone inportant or who does have a vote on this matter does get killed or injured, and then usually the decision to be made is to kill the species off instead off, instead of giving them a home.
Instead of taking our money to try to reduce the amount of deer, they should be trying to increase the amount of habitat.
Being a Illinois resident all of my life (except while in the service) and hunter/fiserman as well. I gotta say I am not one bit impressed with the IDNR system, rules, operations nor customer service. They treat you like you are bothering them when you call them! It is us that "pay their wages". There should be a massive reform to the employee base of IDNR. Get rid of the people that dont like or want to do their job! Get some of us in there that actually care and have no problem answering "stupid questions", if there is actually such a thing. Get some people in there that dont speak like lawyers when it comes time to make rules/laws (conservation). Has anyone actually read a hunter rules and regs book lately? Its like reading a book from a judge's library!
Never understood how a person could be in charge of the DNR, but isnt really into hunting/fishing. Put someone in there that has a passion for it and actually cares! Lets face it the only thing Blago-rich cares about is chicago! Oh yeah, and taking your guns away! (nazi!)
There is alot to do with the way that the dnr has done things to change or improve Hunting and fishing. The removal of checkstations really doesn't change a thing for me or others whom are ethically religious about following the laws/hunting/fishing,saving money for what is what I would like to know.
However,The way that it is in Winnebago county mostly is due to the members and trustees on the board and how alot of people who do love to hunt and fish can't do so anymore due to what decisions they have made.I lost two properties due to condo's going in....
I would say the last thing I see on any agenda by them on there part is habitat, parks and wildlife...more or less us in fact.Who does love to say so outright, like me, that instead of a new movie theatre or mall we should DEVELOP this area into a wildlife refuge or a park?
Don't get me wrong I love the money too,I am a contractor. So,be it,I gotta make a living too,but I am sick....to think this way and have been for years now.
Ya don't live off of venision and turkey and fish today like it use to be,and some kids today wouldn't even think of such a thing but what gets thrown in a micro for breakfast, lunch and dinner, noone would ever think of such a thing in this day and age.
But,I can say I still love to eat what I harvest.
When you go out for dinner and have primerib and all you can eat seafood,it just doesn't register what great grandpa use to eat anymore does it?
I just don't agree on what is more important when it comes to this community's decisions on what comes first. We love to see.... the deer and turkeys?Ha,some have them in there yard everyday, everyone who thinks they love deer, turkeys and fishing would not take away where they live by tearing down a chunk of timber and not putting in something at all to give back what was there or atleast support it.
Then we say that the parks we do have is so overrun with them for some reason is mere stupidity?Where else are they gonna go?I certainly would not want to smell you either. This stinks.
I think it is a joke how Winn.Co/developers don't see the reality of it all and what is left of this county but mostly farmland is to pave, and how we have not one park/preserve that has been built or set aside to have wildlife in it.
Lake county has the same criteria, yet they do have 10 times more parks/reserves,look at a map.
Then on top of it all us hunters complain that we can't hunt the parks, that decision is up to the board as well. How come there are some parks that are huntable in all the surrounding countys, and not ours?
Some officials in government know what they are doing. Some don't.
I have lived here my whole life too, wish I didn't sometimes just about most of it anyways. So there.
