Default FIRST buck

I've been shooting & letting deer go for a long time but today I figured it was time to lay the smack down on something ! took him walking he wouldn't stop just like 3-d ! shot through a 12 inch hole through the tree tops ! the shot was more impressive then the deer. he fell 30 yards away.

Default Congrats!

Very nice first buck! My first deer with a bow was a does (actually my first three deer were...). There's nothing wrong with that buck at all. Congrats again. I'm sure there will be many more to come!

Congrats on your first buck.

I should remind you though that you were fortunate that your first buck wasn't a bad experience and a long tracking job or worse.....a unrecovered animal with your walking shot..... through brush.

practice practice practice. makes them shots comfortable . I had no doubt about the shot or me making it. I have never had a buck stand still for a shot or walk through the open part of the woods.

Congrats on the nice buck. It took me quite a few years to take a buck with my bow, i did take a few doe along the way. I shoot 3d and practice alot also and last year it paid off with a nice eight point. Good luck with the rest of your season.

I was using the new axis with a 100 gr.G5 heres the kicker NO BLOOD ! even where he laid nothing but a few drops he bleed inside totally . I did get lucky I didn't have to track. All the pictures were with my cell phone. it was over 70deg. I didn't want the meat to go bad so I ran him to the meat man.

This buck bleed very little. He only ran 40yrds. I changed to Slick Tricks this year. I know they blow a big hold.

Last year youth hunter shot this deer. Im telling you there was blood everwhere with the SlickTrick.

Thanks... I've used the 100 a few times and I've never experienced a lack of blood trail, but with any loose skinned animal it is always a possibility especially if the deer is walking or quartering.

I usually use the 125 grain Montecs but see no real difference except for a bit more FOC...

I was talking to DB see what you think ! do you or anyone think todays bows that push in the 290fps mark are just to fast for a cut on contact head ? in my mine it's like a hot knife through butter . where a muzzy slick trick with a chisel head would give the impact more of a shocking power .. thoughts ?

Punctures tend to close up and bleed less than slick cuts and blood vessels like veins will roll out of the way of a blunt object where a razor will simply slice through... IMO Speed has nothing to do with a cut...

Loose skinned animals like deer can bleed little externally if the wound isn't kept open because the skin will move over the hole. Larger cut diameters help with this, but in some instances even 2" won't be enough.

Hunting from the ground, I probably see less blood than most treestand hunters because my shots are usually level and the animal must bleed to that level before it leaks...

You guys usually have one hole low on the animal and so the level is reached sooner.
