Few more pictures
Awesome deer. Will be Oklahomas largest ever taken with a recurve bow.

I believe that one is the Ace of Spades. One of my friends was there last weekend and said that he had been killed. That really pumps me up because I head down there next thursday.

Pre rut should be kicking in tight about then. That deer was harvested in Hominy area there. Think you could hold it together something like that comes by?

Maybe if he shows up all of the sudden at 15 yards and I don't have time to think about it!

Wow that thing is a monster, and shot with a recurve!
Good luck Randy, I expect you to post up something bigger than the "Ace of Spades"

I believe free range. But you have to get drawn for the hunt, and the only stipulation is you can only use a recurve, and it cannot have any sight references.

It is totally free range. Over 40,000 acres with nothing but normal barbed wire to keep cattle out. It is and ammunition plant with 40,000 acres of storage for the bombs. Really weird to hunt with all the bunkers around.
They have been doing controlled huts in there for a long time - like more than 30 years and it is primitive archery (recurve or longbow with no attachemts) only for bucks. That is why they have so many big ones. I think in Dec they let some shotguns in to hunt does.
I've been drawn a couple of times. It's a real fun hunt.

definately free range as I know the man that runs the base and this hunt for the department of wildlife.....
We also know the owner of the property that is across the standard 5 strand barb wire fence.
My cousin works on the base and said this was 1 of the top 10 most wanted bucks....

Thanks Richard, I sure hope so. Success rate is awful low there. I would just be glad to just see one let alone get an opportunity to take a shot at one.

The first year I went, there was about ~25% success for that weekend. Almost 50 deer on the ground in one weekend with sticks and strings. We studied aerial photos of the area before we went. Basically just tried to find some hidden little funnels and it paid off pretty well.
Looks like the weather will cooperate for you, so hopefully it will be a good hunt and you'll see lots of deer.
Best of luck to you.

That's basically why I quit putting in for it. I'm normally a compound shooter and when I would get drawn for that hunt I would have to practice with the recurve alot to get good enough to kill a deer consistently at 15 yards. I'm too lazy now to dedicate my summer to shooting a recurve. I don't want to go unless I'm 100% with the weapon.

They have annual recurve shoot at this gith ever year. It draws so amny shooters it amazing. Good for recurvers and real archers. I respect anyone that can harvest a deer with a recurve.

Deer Creeks full of does usually. I always liked the side close to Boggy.
