How much $ for a new string?
The owner of our new pro shop in town told me he'd make me a string, serve it, and square everything for $85. That seems awfully steep. What do y'all think?

It is. If you can do the switchout yourself get with jcmorgan on here - he'll treat you right.

Takes a little time to get the bow tuned and peep tied in. Seems fair to myself. But of course you can go buy a press and tools to do it and save $20.00 bucks.

The price of good strings is no doubt ,comes at a higher price than the good info you get on this site !

If that is for both the string and cables, that is very fair.

That's not bad if he makes a good string and you need somebdy to
install it for you. If you can put it on and tune your own bow I would
get a set of Bucknastys'. I think they are around $65.00.

If someone buys a set off of me and I install them, I do it for the price of the strings. If they bring in someone elses strings for me to put on, I charge extra. What he is charging isn't out of line these days.

Is this for the string and cables, or just the string???
My pro-shop built my string and cables, timed my bow, d-loop, limbdriver cable to match strings, paper tuned, tied peep then spent at least an hour making sure the bow was shooting good for ME.. All for a few dollars more than $85. So, yep, pretty fair price.

$85.00 New string and square it up. Seems plenty fair. The guy has to eat.
Remember he's doing something you can't or you wouldn't consider paying for it.

Seems like a fair price to me. I paid 75 just to have off the shelf strings and cables put on a bow 10 years ago.

I did it
After hearing from you folks, I took my bow in on Monday. New string, cables, d-loop, serving, the whole bit. I got it back yesterday. The only thing I found wrong was that the peep was installed upside down. Had that fixed in 5 minutes. Took it home and shot about 25 arrows. I don't know if it's my imagination or what, but the string seemed quieter than my old one. I didn't get the "Boing" I used to get; more of a soft "Thud". I don't have as much bow torque as I had, either. I did have to adjust the windage on my sight, probably, as the pro showed me, because the old string had stretched and canted my cam and idler. So far, I'm pretty happy, but the proof will come after a few thousand shots. Hopefully, I'll get more than a year out of this one.
Thanks for all the input!
