G5 Montec Sharpening

I am a little curious about why anyone would sharpen a G5 Montec.

I use them and the fly the same as my field points. I shoot them one time at the target to make sure they are not defective out of the box but then they go into the quiver and wait.

Just looking for your thoughts, maybe I am not seeing the point.

I don't shoot montec heads, but I only shoot virgin blades and I know lots of people do the same. I wont even shoot a head that has only hit a target. I do know some people that think that they can put a better edge on a blade than what comes out of the box. I don't know if they can or not but they always do it. In any case I think that if your shot is accurate your heads will do the job even if they have hit the target several times.

Some like to practice alot with their broadheads, then sharpen them up to hunt with. What's wrong with that?

i did that with my rocky mountains..shot one at a target, then designated that as a practice head/blade..

Now I want to do that to the new muzzy's i just got, but there freakin expensive to not use..lol

I wasn't saying there was anything wrong with it, I was just curious. The sharpening thing would make me suspect them off flying differently after sharpening though.

It's not like your taking enough metel out of them to effect the flight of the broadhead when you sharpen them.

I shoot my G5's at the target all the time, most of the time a couple of strokes across a sharpening stone and there ready to go again.

Sharpening them won't hurt a thing. If the blades or ferrule get bent, then thats a different story. But just sharpening won't affect flight. Fear not!
Major, I've dinged them up pretty good and had to take a mill file to them with a heavy hand, as long as you keep strokes per side roughly even, no harm done as far as flight.
