Default Archery shooting tower

I belong to a sportsman club and they have 80 acres. Unfortunitly High voltage wires run thru part of it.

The Archery range has 20 thru 50 yard targets. And I was going to build a Archery Tower.

Is there anyone out there with any info on how close I can built to a tower and or how high can I built it.

Say the High voltage wire are 35ft. high to the lowest wire. can I build a 16ft high platform?

I am in Illinios if that helps.

I have tryed to call Comed here and have been on hold 3 times each one being over 1/2 hour then I would have to hang up.

Any info would be greatly appreicated

thanks

The real issue is safety...High voltage can Arc jump to ground...I don't think they want anything under their wires but ther shouldn't be a problem building along the right of way...as far as distance and height I don't know but I can ask a freind of mine he's a utility lineman...He should know...

Default Tower

Taxes are payed.

There is a archery range under The Large Towers not telephone poles. so there is no real problem there.

I would like to have 6 telephone poles 23'-0" in lenght 4'-0" into the ground would leave the tops at 19'-0". take 36" away for railings the deck height would be 16' for the high shooting deck 13'-0" for the middle deck and 7'-0" or 8'-0" for the first shooting deck. under the first deck I would make a shed that would be 12'-0" x 9'-0"

The top deck is in question how close is to close ! am quessing the shooter on the top deck would be 15'-0" plus away from the wire.

So is it a building/shed/tower?
and it is right under the tower wire's not the tower there far far away.

Thanks for you input

Default line voltages

well the first thing you need to find out is the voltage of the lines, the higher the volts the farther you need to be from the wires. If the lines are high voltage and you want to put a stand under the wires remember Comed has easment rights and if they need to get by, you may lose your stand.
here is a list of distances needed in feet from wires in different kv (kilovolt)
low voltage usally along steets & in back yards
1.1-15 Kv needs 2'04" 1 Kv=1000 volts
15.1-36Kv 2'09"
36.1-46 3'
46.1-72.5 3'09"
72.6-121 4'06"

high voltage
138-145 5'02" common on CE property
161-169 6'
230-242 7' 11"
345-362 13'02" common on CE
500-550 19"
765-800 27'04"

if you can find out the volts this list should help

Default Thanks

Thanks,

So there are some kind of guidelines to follow. which is ok. All I have to do is to follow them. Better than hearing What are you nut's you can't do that.

I have left 2 messages for the electric company so far. but if all there going to say is stay 25'-0" away. and if we need to we will tear down the stand. No Problem..

Thanks again

some things to remember is that lines sag in the summer due to heat, so if you are in the center of the two towers thats where it will sag the most. Also those are the guidelines for linemen & anyone else that is working close to them. For safty sake stay clear. electricity doesn't care if it kills and doesn't feel remorse.
