Default fps rules?

Why are there FPS rules in the ASA, NFAA, and any others that may have the rule? With most companies producing bows with an average speed of 300 or better why the need for a FPS rule? Just curious.

I thought it was funny, but I used to walk on my knuckles as a young child.

Some organizations will always find a need for speed limits or rules. It's their way of leveling the playing field for those of us with shorter draw lengths. It matters little that bows keep getting faster. No matter how you cut it people with a longer draw length are going to get more speed. Maybe somewhere down the road we'll see the limits changed to coincide with the greater speed of today's and future bows, but without some rules there will always be a disparity between short and long draw lengths.

kind of weird you hear all the time that speed bows are hard to shoot . if so why are people so worried about a person shooting one in a tournament . according to most shouldnt it be a handicap because they say they dont shoot accurately because there not forgiving . my 3d bow last year shot right at 340 fps this years is at 322 had my best year last year going to be interesting if the 18 fps makes any difference . remember what all say a slow hit is better than a fast miss ( thats them not me ive been over 300fps since the early 90s both hunting and target).
