Release
I was looking into buying a new release and was wondering if the kind of release you buy makes that big of a difference, and also what are some good releases that i should look for. I am wanting to get one that wraps around my wrist.

I personally have been looking into getting a release from Tru-Fire. Still not sure which one I want but am sick of the Cobra release I have now.

Scotts
It does make a difference in the way you shoot.I use a Scotts Shark and love it. They make many different models and triggers styles.I really like the ajustments that it has and also the feel.

I go back/forth between my 2 Truballs, Tornado and Short-N-sweet. Not too expensive. I prefer buckle straps.

I change stuff a lot. I would gues that I have had 10 different bows in the last 7 yrs but I have had the same release for the past 10 yrs, a scott mongosse deluxe. I perfer the buckle over the velco for the reason that I know that it is in the same place every time, it has streched over the years but you can get a new one for 18 dollars. I think that i paid like 65 for it, but for 10 yrs, thats pretty cheap. It is true that you get what you pay for..

I would read this article about the styles, should help you decide
http://www.bowhunting.com/publisher/...ht-release-aid
"Two trends characterize today’s release industry. First, with more and more bowhunters going to string loops, there are new releases designed specifically for this shooting style. Second, 3-D shooting techniques have spilled over into hunting with the renewed interest in thumb-triggered releases. I'll look at both of these product categories as well as several others as I explore each release style with the goal of helping you choose a more accurate system."

I've had several thumb trigger and back tension releases. I still prefer a wrist strap. Not that one is any better than another, but go with what you do best with and are most comfortable with.

If you are not sure, I would recommend that you buy some used ones to try. There are many places online to buy and sell used archery equipment. For caliper releases, I like Truball and Scott. For loop hooks, I like Carter Quickie, Truball Short-n-sweet, and Fletcher loop hook. Scott also makes good releases, my buddy likes the Rhino or Silverhorn.

Definately agree with this. Try used, you can sell them for about what you pay, just out the shipping costs. I found releases you really need to try, esp. wrist straps. Carter, Scott, and Truball IMO all make great releases with excellent customer service.

I have been shooting a TruBall Copperhead with buckle strap for going on 4 years now! TruBall doesn't make the Copperhead anymore but you can still find them for sale around the net. I purchased 2 more that are in the package and sitting in my Archery Room to be used when I need them!
Scott mini goose is another great release and I have one as my backup that I carry with me hunting and use for 3D on a regular basis.....it's a much smaller head than my Copperhead so I don't use it for hunting.
I agree with the comment that you get what you pay for.......I will pay as much as $100 for a nice release knowing that I will get many years of use from it!
Why shoot a $1500 bow with a $20 release?
Which is why I don't shoot $50 strings on that same bow...........

a good release will be a better fit and better materials that will make a quality piece that will work with less failures. don't skimp. however and i think more important, is using one correctly more than a name brand.....

I recommend TruBall as well! Although Tru-Fire is pretty good too and they have some releases in your price range.
